loving this new journey that we are on💜

the conformation world is completely new to me but it’s been so much fun learning something new with Reef. she showed beautifully last week in the 6-9 month class even with a novice handler. she nailed her free stacks, moved beautifully and stood nicely for her exams. it was so much fun being surrounded by so many beautiful Labradors and the breed community. I learned a lot of handling and grooming tricks which I’m excited to try as we continue this show journey.

we have a couple more shows planned for this month starting with a local UKC show next weekend.

lab week 2026 was one for the books🥹

we spent the last week in the beautiful Pacific Northwest for the Labrador Retriever Club National Specialty. it was so much fun to spend time with the breed community, meet new friends and explore the outdoors in between shows. to kick off our lab week content I figured I’d start with with these ribbon photos.

The LRC offers an award called the Dog For All Reasons (DFAR) and in order to earn this award you must qualify in performance events along with competing in conformation. She qualified in scent work novice containers + interior, rally novice and showed in the 6-9 month class. at 6 months old, she was the youngest dog at the National to earn this award and I’m just so incredibly proud!

lab week is FINALLY here🥳

we will be taking a very big road trip up to Washington with Kombu || Kohana for the Labrador Retriever Club national speciality this week! Reef will be debuting in her first “big girl” shows in the 6-9 month classes and she is also entered in Novice Scent Work (containers + interior) and Novice Rally! I figured if we are going all the way there we might as well have some more fun outside of conformation and try some other things too and tbh whatever happens, happens. I’m not putting any pressure on any of the events, we are there to have fun and make this experience positive for her! She has quite a few relatives that we will be reuniting with including two of her sisters, aunt, cousin and grandma💜

we also have a few fun stops planned on the way up and on the way back and I’m excited to meet some of our PNW IG friends IRL🥹

hope you all are ready for some lab week and travel content!

love me a well bred labrador🤩

“The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built, medium-sized, short-coupled, dog possessing a sound, athletic, well-balanced conformation that enables it to function as a
retrieving gun dog; the substance and soundness to hunt waterfowl or upland game for long hours under difficult conditions; the character and quality to win in the show ring; and the temperament to be a family companion.” - AKC Labrador Breed Standard

Reef is from 100% show lines but that doesn’t mean she has no bird drive or that those genetics shouldn’t be fulfilled. Show lines are so much more than what the average person thinks, and while yes they make great family companions and can be “couch potatoes” they can also turn on for sports and really are the dog for all reasons👏 with that said, this is not a post bashing field lines in any way. I’m all for getting the dog that fits your lifestyle best and for us that’s a show line.
