MONTE IS SAFE… but this is not the freedom post we thought we’d be writing. 💔
What started as a collaboration with an out-of-state rescue turned into Monte going missing for 36 hours… only for them to back out after we got him home safely. Now, Monte’s future has unexpectedly fallen into our hands. We are disappointed & just straight-up tired. 😔
For everyone who advocated for Monte while he was at Riverside, there is A LOT to catch you up on. Telluride Humane Society in Colorado committed to pulling Monte, while we agreed to help with his short-term placement & coordinate transport to them. We got him out, arranged for everything he needed, and thought his future was secured.
Unfortunately, within his first day of freedom, Monte jumped a 6-foot fence and ran off. For the next 36 hours, we dropped EVERYTHING. We searched nonstop, brought in professional help, set traps, and barely slept until we finally got him back safely. Just when we thought we could breathe again, Telluride Humane Society informed us they would no longer take him.
And just like that, Monte’s long-term plan was gone. 💔
Monte was never intended to become a FurryTail dog— we stepped in to help another rescue facilitate a plan. But now, if we don’t take him in, there is a very real possibility he could end up back at the shelter.
WE DESPERATELY NEED HELP WITH:
‼️A long-term foster in the San Diego area who can start fostering in a few weeks.
‼️Donations to take Monte on and cover his neuter, vet care, recovery expenses, and more. You can donate securely at furrytailending.org/donate
After everything he’s been through—from being dumped by his owner, to surviving the euth list, going missing for 36 hours, and now losing his rescue plan—Monte deserves to be chosen. We are devastated this is where we’ve ended up after fighting so hard to get him safe. We were not prepared to take another dog in, but Monte should not have to pay the price for a plan that fell apart.
So please, rally behind him. Donate if you can. Share this post. Help us find a foster. We desperately need our community to step up so we can step up for Monte. 🥺
