Meet Crash! Thanks to all who helped him! Here is his story told by one of his caregivers.

Crash is an 11 yo 155 lb. Mastiff owned by John and Emily Doty. Aug 25 Hurricane Harvey hit the Gulf coast of Texas. Crash lives in a town called Port Aransas - one of the towns that was more seriously damaged. On Sept 4, 2017, as the owners were cleaning up their property, a speeding vehicle driving too fast through the debris laden roads ran over Crash. He actually had a tire print across his abdomen. He was unable to stand up. Crash was taken to the emergency Veterinary clinic in Corpus Christi. The local Vet clinic was not open due to the hurricane damage. Radiographs of his hips showed he had no broken bones in this area, only severe road rash. John and Emily called K9 Conditioning & Rehab Services to help Crash walk again. We came to a home that they were staying at (their friend's) to evaluate him and to take him back to our facility for inpatient rehab on Sept 8, 2017. Crash didn't seem to feel well and wasn't eating so we took him to our Veterinarian. He had an infection (probably from the road rash). He immediately began feeling better on the antibiotics and after a liter and a half of fluids. We had him walking in the Underwater Treadmill and had the Chiropractor visit him to adjust his hip. 2 weeks after he came here we planned on discharging Crash home. He was strong enough to walk on his own to toilet. He was eating well and feeling like his normal self. He was a little wobbly but the owners were ready and able to manage him.
Just before discharge Crash had a horrible wound that showed up on his Left elbow. It's unknown how this occurred. He has thick hygromas on his elbows. On evaluation we noted his left elbow to be spongy. He may have had a deep infection festering in there? Maybe some debris from being run over? Nonetheless we now needed to manage this deep wound. We wrapped the wound to protect it after we applied a wet to dry dressing and called KCI the following Monday for help with a wound vac. We needed something to help heal this wound. Much to my surprise and excitement KCI was so ready and willing to send us what we needed immediately.
It has been 6 days since we have had the wound vac and his wound has filled in so much! Thank you KCI!! I am so pleased to partner with you!
Crash really appreciates it.

Over Thanksgiving weekend Acelity team member (and pilot) Paul Schubert and his son William flew 32 cold shocked turtles from the New England Aquarium in Massachusetts to turtle rehabilitation hospitals in North and South Carolina. Turtles can be cold shocked when the warm water they prefer suddenly becomes too cold. These turtles, once healthy, will be returned to the wild. Paul Schubert: “Three of my favorite things are spending time with my family, flying airplanes, and helping to rescue animals. What a pleasure is was to do all three at once.”
