*** UPDATE - GORDO has found a SHORT TERM FOSTER HOME but is still looking for a long term foster or adoptive home! ***
Sadly, we are posting several dogs AT RISK today - we mentioned last week our overcrowding has become very dangerous and while we DID have a handful of folks who came in to foster and adopt - AND THANK YOU! - we had many MORE dogs enter the shelter than leave, leaving us still terribly over crowded.
Gordo is another dog who has found himself AT RISK here at HSNBA. He entered the shelter as a stray – so we know nothing about his background – in the middle of January. He’s a young dog (barely a year) and we have literally no clue what his breed may be – we are guessing some sort of shepherd/terrier mix – and he’s about 50 pounds.
Gordo’s biggest issue is he REALLY REALLY REALLY hates it here and he is simply not getting enough exercise and enrichment – no matter how hard we try. When he gets frustrated and over stimulated, he can get very nippy and we are concerned that his frustration is going to lead to an accidental bite to a person. For this reason, we feel he would do best in a home with no young children but ultimately, it depends on the kids. We feel he would not be successful in a home with cats but he does really seem to enjoy the company of other dogs and having a dog in the home with a similar energy level may be just what he needs to be successful!
We can’t stress this enough – this dog is HIGH ENERGY – a basic stroll around the block every night is not going to cut it for Gordo. He needs at least a 6 foot fence to keep him contained and he really needs a foster or adopter who is just as active and outgoing as he is to be successful.
Euthanasia is absolutely always the LAST RESPORT at HSNBA but we can’t do this alone. If euthanizing a dog because we are out of space makes you as angry as it makes us – TAKE ACTION.
If you are ready to ADOPT – COME VISIT! We have an EXTRAORDINARY team here ready, willing and able to match you up with one of our dogs who will be the best match for your home and lifestyle!

If you are not ready to adopt – CONSIDER FOSTERING – this is a temporary placement of a dog in your home, whether it’s 2 days or 2 months, it frees up kennel space for the incoming stray pets AND helps us get to know how the dogs really are in a home so that together, we can find them their FOREVER home!

VOLUNTEERS - We need you now more than ever! These dogs need walks, enrichment, baths, and playtime and our staff is stretched so thin we can barely finish the basics every day, the extras are just not getting done. VOLUNTEER: https://www.hsnba.org/get-involved/volunteer/
DONORS – It’s easy to feel helpless when you see these posts if you are not able to bring a large dog into your home or if you are not physically able to come walk and play with these large dogs – but extra funds help us pay for vet visits, additional staff, spay and neuter surgeries and so much more, even $5 will help.
