What does a dog mean to you?

To me, a dog is so much more than a pet. A dog is a best friend, a loyal companion, and one of life’s greatest blessings.

Growing up, my Father taught me that we have a responsibility to care for animals because they don’t have a voice. That lesson has stayed with me my entire life. Today, I see dogs who are abandoned, neglected, abused, or simply forgotten. It breaks my heart because they cannot speak for themselves—we have to be their voice.

Dogs love us unconditionally. They don’t betray us. They don’t judge us. They simply want to love and be loved. Yet too often, humans are the ones who fail them.

Sometimes I wonder why.
Is it how people were raised?
Is it a lack of compassion?
I don’t have all the answers, but I do know there is incredible beauty in opening your heart to an animal that depends on you.

I’m also grateful for the countless rescues, fosters, transporters, and volunteers who dedicate their lives to saving them. You are making a difference every single day.

At the same time, we must hold ourselves to a higher standard. Every dog deserves more than just being “saved.” They deserve to be placed in a safe, loving, forever home. We have a responsibility to make sure they don’t end up back in the same cycle of neglect or exploitation. Rescue should always be about the dog’s best interest—not recognition, money, or personal gain.

These animals have already been betrayed once. They deserve people who will follow through, protect them, and fight for their future.

So I’ll ask again…
