Have you ever heard the saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks?" Well I call big BS on that.

It's not often that LTD gets called to work with senior dogs, but in 2023 Miss Mollie's new human contacted us to create a training plan for her recently rescued 13 year old pup. Mollie had unique limitations like hearing loss, vision impairment, arthritis, and more. Naturally LTD jumped at the opportunity to help improve Mollie's confidence and quality of life any way we could.

It's hard not to get choked up writing this, thinking about all the times humans had let this poor girl down. I refuse to give power to that negativity though. So instead we will acknowledge the new lease on life her rescue human brought her.

Mollie's training plan didn't include basic obedience with implied sits and impressive recalls. Her training consisted mostly of cultivating enrichment, management protocols, and trust building exercises for her new pack to operate within. It wasn't about "how to get her to do this or that," it was about helping her live her highest quality life yet. The whole reason I teach the way I do is because one size does NOT fit all and this is merely one example of that.

Thank you to Mollie's Mom for letting Let's Talk Dogs into their sacred and limited time together. It was truly an honor and privilege.

The worst part about dogs is that they don't live forever but I am so happy this sweet grey face got to cross the rainbow bridge finally knowing what unconditioned love looks and feels like. To those who rescue senior dogs, thank you. It is no small undertaking but it means the world to the ones who are rescued. 🌈🐾

WE HAVE AN LTD GRAD ON OUR PAWS!🎓
Can I get a WOOF, WOOF?!
(Do I only crack myself up with the dog puns or anyone else too?😂)

It's important to remember that training never actually stops, especially when you have a working breed! Goose and his humans will keep up on their skills by going on nightly training walks before bed and taking us up on any refresher lessons they may need.

Congratulations to this pack for working so hard to make it this far. Sometimes it's bittersweet saying "See ya later" but the progress they have made makes for one happy Trainer!
