Hello everyone this is our first installment to "Management Monday" A weekly series on management techniques to help you towards your training and lifestyle goals with your canine friends.

This week we'll be discussing the term "Crate and Rotate" This means when one dog is having quiet relaxing time in their kennel, the other is out in the house. Periodically throughout the day the dogs are switched meaning they aren't out together at the same time. This post is by no means a definitive guide however I'll be going over the 4 main scenarios this technique is used for.

Please consult a dog trainer or behaviorist who has experience with these scenarios, has reviews, and showcases their process. Before using this technique in these or similar situations.

Prevention of Aggressive and Fearful behavior.
This is an excellent way to manage two or more dogs in one household who are exhibiting aggression, Fear, possessiveness, or insecurities around each other. Setting up more structure can create relaxation and confidence around dogs showing these behaviors. It's a good step in insuring both dogs safety. As well as establishing a pattern of not having to confront the other dog in situations they won't succeed in.

Beneficial for homes with multiple Intact animals. The first most obvious scenario would be if you had an Intact Male and Female living in the same home. A good management system will be needed when the female comes into heat to prevent unwanted pregnancies. I also recommend moving your in season female to another part of your home for her cycle. The other scenario this is useful is in dogs who have same s*x aggression or breeds more genetically inclined too. This is most often seen in males but certain breeds or individual females will exhibit this behavior as well.
