His name is Ash.
βBeauty for Ashes.β
I was looking for a young horse to bring along myself.
After searching through several, I almost bought a different one entirely⦠but something in my spirit told me not to move forward with the deal.
Then I found Ash.
Everything seemed perfect.
We agreed on a price, the PPE was going well, and it looked like heβd be making the trip home.
But during a second flexion, we noticed something small that didnβt sit right.
So we took images.
Thatβs when we discovered a bone chip from an old sesamoid injury β likely from the track.
In that moment, this stopped being a purchase.
It became a conversation about what kind of future this horse would have.
Without surgery, Ashβs future was uncertain. And in an industry where too many horses disappear into bad situations, none of us wanted that to happen.
So instead of protecting profit, two women from different states β complete strangers β came together to create a path forward for this horse.
That path meant shipping him from Florida, surgery, rehab, recovery, and the long road of bringing him back correctly.
The horse became the priority.
And honestlyβ¦ thatβs the kind of story I wish happened more often in this industry.
Thereβs enough darkness in the world already.
Hereβs to the people who still choose integrity.
Who still choose compassion.
Who still choose to do right when nobody would blame them for walking away.
Hereβs to the light that shines in dark places.
Beauty for Ashes.
ββ¦to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of joy instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.β
