🐾 SPAY, NEUTER & GASTROPEXY: MORE THAN JUST ROUTINE SURGERIES! 🐾

Did you know that some of the surgeries we commonly recommend can do much more than prevent unwanted litters? They can also help protect your pet from certain serious health conditions. ❤️

🐶 Spaying & Neutering

Spaying and neutering are important parts of preventative veterinary care. Depending on your pet’s age, breed, s*x, and individual health needs, these procedures may help:

✔️ Prevent unwanted pregnancies and litters
✔️ Prevent uterine infections such as pyometra in females
✔️ Eliminate the risk of testicular cancer in males
✔️ Reduce the risk of certain reproductive diseases
✔️ Help reduce some hormone-related behaviors

The ideal age to spay or neuter isn’t necessarily the same for every pet. Your veterinarian can help determine the best timing based on your pet’s breed, size, health, and lifestyle.

🐕 What is a Gastropexy?

If you have a large or deep-chested breed, you may have heard your veterinarian mention a gastropexy.

Certain dogs are at increased risk for gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV), also called bloat. GDV occurs when the stomach becomes distended and can twist, creating a life-threatening emergency.

A gastropexy is a surgical procedure that attaches the stomach to the abdominal wall, helping prevent the stomach from twisting.

Breeds with increased GDV risk include Great Danes, German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, Standard Poodles, Irish Setters, Weimaraners, and other large/deep-chested breeds.

💡 Preventative gastropexy can sometimes be performed at the same time as a spay or neuter, allowing your pet to undergo both procedures during one anesthetic event.

⚠️ Important: A gastropexy significantly helps prevent the stomach from twisting, but it does not prevent the stomach from filling with gas or becoming bloated. Any dog showing signs such as a distended abdomen, repeated unproductive retching, restlessness, weakness, or collapse needs immediate emergency veterinary care.

Happy Friday🎉 🐾

We wanted to introduce you to one of our adorable new patients from this week! Meet London Fog! ☁️💕

His owner says he is the biggest cuddler at home and is one very happy boy! 🥰

London Fog came in for his first kitten vaccines and to discuss his upcoming neuter procedure. He was such a brave little guy through it all! 💉🐱👏

We’re so happy to welcome London Fog to our clinic family and can’t wait to watch him grow! 💕🐾

🐾💕 Sadie Jae update and our technician, Shelby! 💕🐾

Sadie Jae has been through quite the journey. After a previous incident, she required specialist surgery in an attempt to surgically repair her leg. Sadie and her family did everything they could, including surgical repair and dedicated aftercare at home. Unfortunately, when Sadie Jae came back for follow-up X-rays, the results were not what we were all hoping for.

With her quality of life in mind, the difficult decision was made to amputate her leg.

But look at her now! 💕 Sadie Jae recently came in for a recheck of her incision and overall progress, and we were so happy to hear some wonderful news from her owner: Sadie has been doing great at home and is adjusting well after her surgery!

Throughout her entire journey, her owner says Sadie Jae has remained in good spirits. 💪🐶 One thing is for sure—absolutely nothing can stop Sadie Jae! ❤️🐾

We are so proud of this brave girl and love seeing her thrive as she continues to adjust to life on three legs! Three legs, endless spirit, and so much love. 🥰🐾
