Shelter friends, we hope you have noticed our recent posts regarding our participation tomorrow, June 6th, in California Adopt A Pet Day. We hope the event attracts lots of attention and that plenty of animals go home with adopters taking advantage of the subsidized adoption fees. **Sharing** our posts helps immensely to get our pets attention. Thank you! โค๏ธ๐โค๏ธ
Today, we have the pleasure of introducing you to Peggy, another adult member of a large group of Malinois/Shepherd dogs to arrive at the shelter from one location. Kept in kennels and crates for most of their lives, these dogs have lacked appropriate developmental and healthy living experiences. ๐ They were a bit undernourished, as well. Yet, although they were initially fearful in the chaotic shelter, they have proven to be extremely sweet-tempered and easy to handle, allowing us to coax them into friendship with multiple new humans as they've become more comfortable. Additionally, they all seem to get along great with other dogs. ๐โค๏ธ
Peggy has been held back from posting for adoption till now because this girl has been BUSY! ๐คช She raised a whole buncha puppies, who are now weaned. Thisโplus the bath and rubdown she'd just hadโwill explain the exuberant zoomie sesh you see in her video. "I'm freeeeeeee, wheeeeee!!" she seems to be thinking. ๐ฅณ We're very proud of her momma skills. Now she gets to start a new life as a single gal, hopefully in a home that will treat her like the queen she is. ๐
When out on walkies, Peggy pulls a bit but not hard. We think she's just really really excited to be out and about, but she'd benefit from training. She likes to hug and crawl into laps but isn't too pushy about it. She shares the general attributes of the Malinois group: quiet, sweet-tempered, affectionate, and athletic. We love their sweet faces and gentle eyes. ๐
Peggy doesn't yet really grok the game of fetch, but those zoomies turned out to be an invite to play a rousing game of TAG YOU'RE IT, which she loved. It was fun and great exercise for us, too. ๐ฅต๐
Full of love and active energy, paired with gorgeous golden-coated beauty, Peggy has the potential to be a truly lovely companion. Malinois are famously active, intelligent dogs who need stimulation and exercise to thrive. And to not eat your shoes. This group seems to be relatively chill for Malinois, but Peggy and all her compatriots will likely do best in homes with lots of attention and an active lifestyle. ๐ก๐
Peggy will need to be spayed before she can go home with you. She keeps her inner kennel pretty tidy; though we can't make guarantees, she may be easy to house train. ๐ฉ๐ค No cats, please. ๐
As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home. ๐ค๐ถ๐ค
