Cottonwood Dog Park, Salt Lake City, UT Fully fenced off leash dog park with rolling green lawns, benches, picnic tables and water for you a

The best way to access the park is via the Jordan River Parkway Trail. Park at the lot south of the Dept of Agriculture building on North Star Drive. Walk to the north side of that building, over the foot bridge (crossing the Jordan River), and you'll see the dog park beyond the picnic table pavilions. Take a stroll along the parkway, watch the locals play cricket in the summertime. Ride your bike, learn to skateboard or just run the scenic trail with your dogs!

Hey everyone, this shouldn’t need to be said, but when you’re leaving the dog park, SHUT THE GATES behind you. There are multiple gates into the dog park, and while you may think there are no more dogs in the park, and it’s after dark, close and latch the gates behind you.
Those are the rules for using an off leash dog park. It’s up to everyone to be responsible and not let someone else’s dogs out. The expectation is the park is secure, the gates are always closed.
I’ve had my big dog let out of the park SIX times in the last 3.5 years. That is unacceptable. Thankfully, she didn’t get run over, or lost. It’s extremely stressful to be out on the trail chasing down or looking for a dog at any time of day, let alone at night.
I watched a family leave just now, leaving both gates wide open. I was walking towards the park and asked them why the gates are open. They said there’s no one in the park. Even if that’s true, there are SIX entry points into this dog park. If you leave a gate open, you are risking a dog’s life. Please be smart and use some common sense. Close the gates and be respectful. We all love our dogs. No one wants to see their dog run over on Redwood Rd or lost.
Treat the park like there are a bunch of 3 years olds running around and keep it secure.
The man called me a Mormon, a Karen and was offended that I asked why the gates are left open. He didn’t like me pointing out the gates are to be closed at all times. Those are BASIC off leash dog park rules. Follow them, or don’t use the park. Don’t bring food inside. Don’t let your kids ride their bikes and scooters inside, don’t bring your female dogs in heat inside.
The rules are posted right by the south gates. Read them. Educate yourself. Be responsible. Be reasonable. And don’t resort to calling people names. It’s unnecessary, and immature.
Just close the gate when you leave.

Hey everyone, a pine tree near the water fountain was struck by lightening yesterday morning, August 29th.
We’ve had lots of monsoon rain in the last several weeks, thunderstorms and lightning. If you see a storm coming, please head home. Standing under a tree is not safe. We’ve all done it. It’s not safe for you or your dogs. We are lucky no one was hurt yesterday.
Sit in your car, wait inside somewhere safe or head home. Come back when there’s no lightning.
The bark flew all over the place, there are holes in the ground where the lightning charge went into the earth. Hopefully this tree will recover.

The LHM Group has big plans for our neighborhood! In case you didn’t know, Fairpark area will be transformed in the coming years, that will benefit all of us. Safety will be improved dramatically, opportunities for job growth, for living and recreation, walkable community, integrating the river, parks and fairgrounds into the mix.
North Temple needs this investment so badly, as does our community.

The $3.5B Power District will revitalize Salt Lake City’s gateway area, including the Jordan River and Utah State Fairpark.

Heads up everyone!! There is a Great Horned Owl that has been in the area for the last week or so. I saw him flying across the dog park last week at dusk, and yesterday, I saw him perched in my Redwood tree before sundown.
These are powerful predators, capable of taking prey up to 16lbs. Their claws are huge.
PLEASE PLEASE, keep your smaller dogs on a leash or close to you. It only takes a second for your pup to be snatched up. Owls are night predators, but I have seen this owl in the daytime and at dusk. He is hanging around close to the dog park, so please please be aware. We don’t want anyone to be traumatized, hurt or killed.
We love all our dog park friends, so please be safe!! ❤️🐶🩷

Last year, the State put Salt Lake City’s Mayor on notice. She had until Jan 17th to come up with a comprehensive safety plan for the capital city, and for restore public trust.
The plan was submitted, and each month since, we have seen more patrols, more commitment from SLCPD under Chief Redd, UHP patrols, Jordan River patrols, Park Rangers and Public Lands, all focusing on Cottonwood Park and the Jordan River Trail from North Temple to 700 North, inside the Fairpark boundaries.
Our open lands here had become a treacherous hot spot for all kinds of nefarious, dangerous criminal activity, that had been allowed to grow and embed itself deeply in our area. That reality is no more!
We have a deep commitment from the Governor’s office, the legislature, Public Lands, Chief Redd/SLCPD, and many other agencies/stakeholders in keeping this area patrolled, prioritized and safe for residents and visitors.
As always, call 911 or the non-emergency dispatch if you are EVER uncomfortable or see suspicious activity in the area. The only way for the criminal element to be driven out of our area is if we put continual pressure on their activities by calling the police.
You can make your call anonymous, but making these calls is critical. We cannot rid the neighborhood of crime if we see it and do nothing.
SLCPD are responding quickly and are frequently on the trail patrolling.
Offenders are no longer being released the same day, they are being held until their court date and prosecuted, which is something that hasn’t been happening for decades. HB312 was passed last year, and has been the single most effective solution and almost immediately rid our public lands of daytime drug users, overdose deaths, and crime of every kind, within just a week or so of becoming state law.
Our parks, our community is no longer a haven or hideout for serial criminals and drug users.
Our parks have been returned to the people, and that is something worth celebrating!!
The SLCPD wants to hear from you!! Please use your phone camera for the QR Code and follow the link to the survey. It’s anonymous. We need you to use your voice!! The police want to know how best to serve this community and WANT to hear from you, so please take a few minutes to take the survey! Thank you!!
