So I’m working to turning Peachy’s story into Peachy’s Promise, an initiative to help veterinary hospitals safely receive, handle, sedate, and care for feral cats who arrive in humane traps so no other cat goes through what she did.

Below are some pictures of cat who suffered way too long. Certain illnesses, conditions, or injuries are not treatable when a cat is feral or unhandleable, and they should not be made to continue to suffer trying to survive outdoors (or indoor confined) as such.

A great article on feral cat medical care and how their treatment needs are very different from a tame house cat.
"For feral cats, there’s an added layer of complexity. You have to factor in the colony situation, the caretaker’s ability to provide ongoing care and monitoring, and whether you’ll be able to re-trap the cat if his condition deteriorates. If the treatment will require an extended stay in a shelter or a foster home, you’ll also need to consider the cat’s degree of wildness and how well he’ll tolerate captivity, even though you may not know the answers to these questions until he’s been in your care for several days."
And it can be fatal for some feral cats.

Proper, safe trap covers are very important for successful TNR and the cats wellbeing.

Cutting trap covers getting ready for cooler weather/ winter trapping. Material is bit heavier but not suffocating.

"Outdoor cats are still "domesticated" animals, and as such we need to provide for them so they can thrive."

If you've got yourself a barn cat, it's important to remember that they still need fresh food and water every day! They might have a job as a mouser, but that is not a sufficient diet for them. It's a myth that they'll hunt better if you don't feed them. Cats need a healthy diet so they can be in their best physical condition for the job.

Of course, it goes without saying that barn cats need to be fixed... but we'll say it anyway! Fix your barn cats! Your best bet is to get an ear tip so that anyone can see at a distance that your outdoor cat has been fixed and vaccinated. Outdoor cats are still "domesticated" animals, and as such we need to provide for them so they can thrive.

"Rescue requires more than loving animals. It requires budgeting, recordkeeping, financial boundaries, knowing your capacity, and being willing to say no. Taking another animal when you cannot afford the animals you already have is not saving. Neither is destroying your own financial stability in the process.
We need to stop praising people for sacrificing their personal lives and basic needs in the name of rescue. Financial responsibility is part of animal welfare. Sustainability is part of animal welfare. Sometimes the most responsible thing a rescue can do is stop intake, get its finances under control, and make sure the animals already depending on it are secure."
