Sometimes crisis sheltering takes an unexpected turn. Or in this case, four unexpected turns. 😹🐱🐱🐱🐱

This was definitely a Ruff Haven first!

Vvoyd came into Ruff Haven while her owner worked toward stable housing. Because of a health issue, Vvoyd was considered higher risk for spay surgery. Her owner didn’t believe she could be pregnant, but during a family visit, Vvoyd surprised everyone by giving birth to four baby girls!

Our dedicated fosters jumped in and gave this new family a safe place to recover and grow while Vvoyd’s owner continued working toward housing.

Six weeks later, housing was secured and they were reunited. 💚

Before leaving our care, we vaccinated and spayed all four kittens, and we also safely spayed mama Vvoyd. We’re now helping her owner responsibly rehome the kittens as everyone moves into their next chapter.

Crisis sheltering isn’t always simple or predictable. Sometimes you shelter one cat and end up with five. But a little extra support can make all the difference for a family working to get back on their feet.

“I just want my dog back.”

That’s what Milo’s person told us the day she checked into treatment, the same day Milo came to stay with us.

Day 1: Treatment began. Milo settled in with his foster family, unsure but safe.
Day 12: An update photo went out to her — he was doing just fine.
Day 30: She graduated.
Day 38: Together again. 🥹💚

38 days. That’s how long it took. And the whole time, Milo was safe, fed, and waiting.

This is why Ruff Haven exists. The fear of losing a pet shouldn’t stand between someone and getting their life back.

Milo waited 38 days. Bella waited 52. Luna waited 27. Max waited 59.

While their people worked through housing, treatment, hospital stays, and more, we were here. Feeding. Walking. Caring. Waiting for the day they’d walk back through our doors.

"I didn't want to ask for help because I thought someone would take my kitty away."

We hear versions of this more often than you might think.

People delay asking for help because they're afraid they'll be judged, told they're a bad pet owner, or pressured to give up the animal they love.

That's not what Ruff Haven is here to do.

We're here to help people keep their pets whenever possible and make sure they know they have somewhere to turn during a difficult time.

By the end of our conversation, this caller told us how much she appreciated knowing a service like Ruff Haven exists.

Your pet is family. Needing help doesn't change that. 💚

24 pallets!

We are incredibly grateful to Chewy for another huge donation to support Ruff Haven’s Pet Pantry. Chewy has supported our work for years, helping us keep food and supplies available for families who need a little extra help caring for their pets.

And 24 pallets is no small delivery! A huge thank you to our volunteers Tyson and Presley for jumping in and helping us sort, organize, and get everything ready for our pet pantry.

Lacey is having the best time in her foster home, where weekends apparently mean sunshine, belly-up smiles, and launching herself at stuffed animals with absolutely zero chill. 😂
