In August, 73 animals called Ruff Haven home, whether for a few days or the entire month.

Some have already packed their bags and gone home. Others are still here, being cared for while their people do the hard work of getting back on their feet.

Sakura is one of those pets. She’s still looking for a foster home while her person works through their crisis.

Behind every one of those 73 pets is a person who loves them and a family we’re working to keep together. Fostering gives us room to say yes to more of them.

A huge thank you to our dedicated fosters who open their homes again and again. You make it possible for us to care for more pets, support more families, and celebrate more reunions. 💚

This past Monday, we joined Utah Naloxone and USARA - Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness for International Overdose Awareness Day.

For 25 years, this day has brought communities together to remember those we’ve lost, support those who are still here, and take action to prevent overdose.

We’re grateful to be part of a community that understands recovery takes compassion, resources, and support. For Ruff Haven, that includes making sure a beloved pet has a safe place to stay while their person gets the help they need. 💜

Black is only 9 months old, but he’s already perfected the face of a man who has seen some things.

Want to turn that frown upside down? Sign up to foster Black!

You’ll give him a safe place to hang out while his owner works toward stability, with the goal of getting these two back together.

And if his grumpy little mug doesn’t win you over, we have plenty of other cute pups looking for foster homes too.

Loose dogs can create stressful situations for pets, their people, and everyone around them.

After Salt Lake City Police reached out to learn more about safely navigating these encounters, Ruff Haven provided training, resources, and practical ideas, including making slip leads available for officers to give to community members when needed.

We also helped create a PSA focused on safer interactions with dogs in our community.

We’re always happy to share our animal welfare expertise when it can help keep pets with their people and prevent a difficult situation from becoming a crisis. 💚

Right now at Ruff Haven...

One dog is getting ready to go home. 💚 Charlie has been safe in foster and gets to reunite with his mom today!

One kitty in our facility is getting some much-deserved love from a Ruff Haven volunteer. Marylynn clearly approves.

And one special project is brewing behind the scenes...

This is what Ruff Haven looks like on an ordinary day: people showing up for pets so they can stay connected to the people who love them.

We love seeing our friends do big things! 🎉

A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to tour the new Wasatch Animal Group (WAG) Veterinary Hospital, located in Salt Lake City, and we are so excited to see their doors officially open October 8.

WAG is an independent, locally owned 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary hospital created by people we are incredibly fortunate to call friends and colleagues.

Congratulations to the entire WAG team on this huge accomplishment. We can’t wait to see the impact you make for pets and the people who love them!

No car ride across town., no complicated logistics., just veterinary care right at home.

At our recent onsite clinic at New City Plaza, we vaccinated 20 pets for seniors and residents with disabilities.

Accessible pet care matters, especially when transportation or mobility can make a routine vet visit anything but routine. We’re grateful to help these pets stay happy, healthy, and with the people who love them. 💚
