Dock diving is our passion. It’s a huge part of our life, and more importantly, it’s a huge part of our dogs’ lives.

And because we love this sport so much, we’re willing to have the hard conversations about it.

We love the speed. The drive. The launch. The splash. The dogs that would jump off the dock all day if we let them.

But loving this sport also means recognizing that our dogs are athletes and puppies are developing athletes.

So when we are working with dogs that are 6, 12, and 18-month-old dogs, we have to ask-

What are we asking their bodies to absorb?

A young dog can be incredibly talented and still not be physically ready for the demands of repetitive, high-impact jumping.

They can look amazing. They can have incredible drive.
They can LOVE jumping. And they can still be developing.

At Wasatch K9 Fitness & Training, we don’t believe in rushing a puppy just because they have the talent to do it. For us, dock diving starts long before we’re chasing distance.

We build the swimmer. We build confidence. We develop strength and conditioning. We teach body awareness and mechanics. We learn how that individual dog moves.

And we pay attention to what their body is telling us.

Because there’s a difference between introducing a puppy to dock diving and training a puppy like an adult competitive dock dog.

We want our dogs to have long careers, not just impressive puppy seasons.

Sometimes that means we’re the ones saying:

“Not yet.”

Not because we don’t want your dog to jump. Because we want them jumping for years. Our goal isn’t the biggest jump today.

It’s the healthiest, strongest, happiest athlete we can build for the years ahead.

Dock diving is a huge part of our lives.

And the dogs who make it possible deserve for us to put their long-term health ahead of our short-term goals.

Longevity. Foundation. The dog first. Always.

As we wrap up the season with North America Diving Dogs we will be sharing a few of the accomplishments our personal dogs had this year. Starting with Osa

Little Bear — 🩷🖤Osa God of War 🩷🖤

This little dog finished her season #5 ranked Malinois with a personal best of 30’1” and #28 overall across all breeds and all divisions with North America Diving Dogs.

Not too bad for a little dog that barely weighs 40 pounds.

She also finished the season as the #1 dog in Senior Air Retrieve.

We didn’t do a ton of AR this season. Osa had an injury early on that we had to work through, and it definitely affected both her AR and Distance. We’ve spent a lot of time getting her back, chiro appointments, conditioning, and letting her body catch up.

But she’s getting it back.

If there’s one thing I know about this dog, it’s that she has the biggest heart.

Osa is one of those dogs that means more to us than we can probably put into words. She’s our little bear, and watching her go out there and give us everything she’s got never gets old.

#5 Malinois.
#28 overall.
1 Senior Air Retrieve.
PB- 30’1”.
40 pounds.

Not a bad for a Little Bear.

And I have a feeling next season is going to be her year.

POV: Your dog comes to Wasatch K9 and suddenly they’re living their best life.

We love training your dogs and part of that training is giving dogs new experiences, new adventures and teaching them to be confident and neutral around other dogs.

National Dog Day

Today is for the dogs.

The goofy ones. The serious ones. The ones who are still figuring it all out. The ones who come in with a job to do, and the ones whose biggest accomplishment is simply becoming more confident in the world.

Every dog who comes through Wasatch K9 leaves a little piece of themselves with us, and we’re lucky to be part of their journey.

We get to watch dogs build confidence, learn new skills, overcome challenges, get stronger, find their purpose, and most importantly, build better lives with their people.

These are just a few of the faces we’ve had the privilege of working with.

Happy National Dog Day to every dog who has trusted us with a piece of their journey.

We’ll keep doing what we do because there’s nothing better than watching a dog realize just how much they’re capable of

Good dogs aren’t born knowing how to live in our world.

They have to learn.

How to settle when nothing is happening.
How to walk nicely instead of dragging you down the sidewalk.
How to listen when something exciting is happening.
How to make good choices when they’re frustrated, overstimulated or distracted.

And honestly, that’s what we love about dog training.

It’s not about creating a robot.

It’s about helping dogs and their people understand each other better.

Because the goal isn’t to have a dog who behaves perfectly for an hour during a lesson.

The goal is to have a dog who can take those skills home and actually live successfully in the real world.

That’s where the work matters most.
