FHV-1 can remain infectious on your hands for up to 30 minutes, particularly while infected nasal or eye secretions are still moist.

Good hand hygiene is an important step in helping reduce the spread of FHV-1 between cats. Washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling cats can help reduce the risk of transmission.

Fall is full of fun adventures with your pets—but some of those activities can come with a little extra risk for their eyes!

From running through tall grass and brush to playing in leaf piles, chasing sticks, and hanging around campfires, there are plenty of opportunities for eye irritation or injury.

After your next fall adventure, take a quick look at your pet’s eyes and watch for signs like:
🐾Squinting or keeping an eye closed
🐾Excessive tearing
🐾Redness Pawing or rubbing at the face
🐾Cloudiness

When it comes to your pet’s eyes, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. If something doesn’t look right, contact your veterinarian!
