The Humane Society of Wicomico County is dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk animals, and matching pets with their furever families while providing premier temporary care and shelter for the animals in our community. Every day, our team works tirelessly to rescue at-risk pets, provide compassionate care, and connect them with loving furever families. Thanks to the generosity of our community,

we are able to offer not just food and shelter, but also medical treatment, enrichment, and the love every animal deserves while they wait for their new beginning. Each donation, no matter the size, helps transform lives—from a frightened stray finding comfort for the first time, to a long-overlooked senior dog finally heading to their furever home. We are also working toward building a new facility—one that will provide more space, modern resources, and the tools we need to save even more homeless pets in our community. 🐾 Senior Sunday: Meet Tilts! 🐶 A 7 year old, Male, Pittie Mix.

Tilts was named because of the super cute head tilt he does! Just wait till you see it, you’ll know what we’re talking about.

He came in as a stray that was never reclaimed. He came to us with some skin issues that were probably minor but never taken care of, so they got worse. We have a wonderful med team treating him and he is well on his way to looking his best self.

He is a just a big headed love bug! Tilts is an easy walker, on the calm side, and keeps his kennel nice and tidy. He has not had much reaction to dogs or cats, at this time we think he could do well in a home with other pets. At the same time, we think he would be happy by himself too.

Technically he is considered a senior, but we assure you, he has so much life left to live! It just might be at a slower calmer pace. Which honestly, sounds good to us! Who doesn’t want a calm, easy couch potato?

🐾 Foster Friday: Meet the planets! 🐶

These adorable 8-week-old Pit Bull Mix puppies came to us with their wonderful mom, Ginger-Moon, who has done an incredible job raising her babies. Thanks to her love and care, they are healthy, happy, and now ready to begin their own adventures with furever families of their very own.

While they may be small now, these puppies will grow into loyal, loving companions. Like all puppies, they are full of curiosity, energy, and enthusiasm. Their new families should be prepared for all the joys and responsibilities that come with raising a puppy, including house training, crate training, leash training, socialization, and teaching basic manners. Consistency, patience, and structure will help these pups grow into happy, well-rounded dogs.

It is with heavy hearts that we share our condolences on the passing of a truly wonderful woman, Donna Gale.

Donna had a heart of gold, a witty personality, and a deep love for her family and friends. She always brought smiles whenever she came to the shelter, and we truly enjoyed seeing her.

Donna was also the best friend of our office staff member, Mary. Their friendship was one of a kind, and our hearts especially ache for Mary as she mourns the loss of someone who meant so much to her.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mary, Donna’s family, and all of her friends during this incredibly difficult time. May they find comfort in the many cherished memories they shared, and may Donna’s kindness and spirit never be forgotten. 🩵🐾

🐱 We have Barn Cats in need of new homes! 🐱

Perhaps you need a mouser around your barn, or you just want an outdoor kitty to patrol your farm and keep your animals company. We have some adorable cats who would love to join your crew!

Our own barn cats have gone from wild and feral to begging for pets and attention, and most of these cats will likely come around like that as well.
If you’re interested in adopting a barn cat, we can give you all the guidance you need for the acclimation period. All cats will be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on shots.

Please submit a cat adoption application with “barn cat” as the cat’s name, we will process it and contact you for next steps. Thank you!

Dog Walking is available Tuesday - Friday 11:00 AM until 4:30 PM, and Saturday 11:00 AM until 3:30 PM. Your visit could be the highlight of a shelter dog’s day. Come take a pup for a walk and help them get the exercise, enrichment, and love they deserve.

When shelters and rescues come together, amazing things happen. 🩵🐾

A big Thank You to Baywater Animal Rescue and Talbot Humane for stepping up to help us with some of the dogs from the recent seizure case. Because of their kindness and willingness to help while our shelter is overcapacity, these deserving pups were able to move into their care, and most importantly find the loving furever homes they deserve.

Animal welfare is truly a team effort, and this is a perfect example of what can happen when organizations work together with one shared goal: giving animals the best possible chance at a happy life.

We are incredibly grateful for their partnership, support, and dedication to helping animals in need. Thank you for being part of their journey to furever. 🐶🏡

🚨 A HUGE shout out to two incredible local businesses for helping make our shelter a more comfortable place for the animals in our care, after our A/C unit went out. 🐾

Thanks to the generosity of Shore Distributors, we now have a brand-new A/C unit for the back of our shelter! ❄️

An equally heartfelt Thank You to Coastal Comfort Heating and Air Conditioning for generously donating the labor and expertly installing the unit for us. Your kindness and support mean more than you know!

Keeping our shelter cool and comfortable is so important—especially during these hot summer days. This donation will make a real difference for the animals waiting for their furever homes, as well as our dedicated staff and volunteers who care for them every day.

It truly takes a community to save lives, and we're so grateful to have businesses like Shore Distributors and Coastal Comfort standing beside us.
