Location: Salisbury - Statesville Blvd. and Hildebrand Rd.
A fox in the Salisbury area has tested positive for rabies. Rabies is fatal to people and animals once symptoms appear, but preventable through vaccination.
What residents should do:
Vaccinate your pets. North Carolina law requires that all dogs, cats, and ferrets 4 months of age and older be kept current on rabies vaccination.
$10 rabies vaccine: Make an appointment with the Rowan County Animal Shelter for a $10 rabies vaccination. (1-year) 704-216-7768, option 1.
Avoid contact with strays and wildlife. Do not touch or pick up wild or stray animals, especially if they are acting unusual (staggering, drooling, unusually aggressive, or paralysis).
If you see an animal behaving strangely or believe there has been a possible rabies exposure, call 704-216-7768, option 2.
