SPAY🔸NEUTER 🔸PREVENT SUFFERING

Free kittens often lead to more free kittens. 😿

Unaltered cats continue the cycle, and too many of those kittens eventually end up homeless, suffering outdoors, or overwhelming shelters and rescues already struggling to keep up.

The kindest way to help is to 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙥 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙮𝙘𝙡𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙨.

Sometimes the call for help comes not for a kitten, but for a sweet old senior whose entire world has been turned upside down & truly just needs a safe place to land….

Meet Tonto!

This hunk of a cuddle bug lost the only home & family he’s ever known. Estimated to be 10ish years old, his daddy died, and his mommy had to go to a nursing home, leaving him homeless. He was surrendered to a shelter partner, who knew this boy would not endure shelter life well. They reached out for help, and me knowing I have a soft spot for orange boys, I couldn’t say no.

He’ll be seeing one of our rescue vets in the next few days, and if his exam goes well, we will be looking for a special, and perfect home for him. He needs a quiet home, where he can enjoy lap lounging, sun sprawling, and window watching with endless snacks & snuggles to help him enjoy his senior years!
Keep checking back for his official debut post….

Rescue doesn’t stop, even on holidays.
We accepted these kittens into rescue today -
Two 1ish week olds whose mommy abandoned them (earlier this week, we had two, now 5ish day olds brought to us as well).
Two 8ish week olds, the orange female found near a local library & the black male found at the Shorebirds stadium. We’ve chosen a cool name for the orange tabby girl, but need a cool baseball themed name for the boy! Go….

Happy Memorial Day from Cedarcrest Kitten Rescue 😻🇺🇸🐾

Today we remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We are forever grateful for their courage and service.
As we spend time with family, friends, and our furry companions today, we hope everyone has a safe and meaningful holiday.
Thank you for continuing to support rescue kittens and helping us give them the loving homes they deserve. 🏡❤️🙏🏼

Because this has happened A LOT over the last couple weeks, and then to have folks complain & get mad (cursing at us) because we cannot immediately help with a problem YOU created, is downright rude & disrespectful. We are a small rescue with a handful of core VOLUNTEERS who ALL work full time jobs outside of kitten rescue. Impatience & disregard for that will not be tolerated….as well as your messages to make us feel guilty for not helping soon enough.
The excuses are endless - and yes, we’ve heard them all. But if you truly wanted to help the kittens GET THE MOM & DAD FIXED!!!! There are grants & organizations to help with this for FREE…but you do need to help yourself a little too. We cannot do all the research, work and transporting. Frankly, taking care of the kittens until we have space & a foster available is not that difficult if you really want to help them! Get a big crate, or set them up in a bathroom, etc…. And for the love of God and all that’s holy & mighty, STOP GIVING AWAY FREE KITTENS … especially when they’re too young, and we’ve agreed to help & have simply asked you to give us a little time. YOU are adding to the overpopulation crisis! The people seeking a free kitten will likely not be responsible to get the kitten vetted, vaccinated, and fixed - hence, adding to the problem! Free kittens are not free!
I will also assure you, disrespecting one of our fosters is a sure way to never receive help from us!

Thank you to those who reach out, who are kind, understanding and patient - we appreciate you! We really are doing our best to help everyone we can! 🙏🏼

Because we see this EVERY DAY! Giving away kittens contributes to this overpopulation crisis we are in…especially when they are too young. The plethora of issues it creates is devastating, on many levels. Free kittens are not free, they still require veterinary care, vaccines & spay/neuter!

If you are giving away free kittens, with no adoption process, you are taking a HUGE risk with your kittens‼️ All you want is a “good home” for them, but here are your obstacles:

1. PEOPLE WILL LIE TO YOU. 😕
I’ve done it myself to get kittens out of a bad situation! AND it was easy, because the right questions were not being asked.

2. PEOPLE WITH BAD INTENTIONS LOOK FOR FREE KITTENS. 😭
These folks will DEFINITELY lie to you, often having someone more trusting pose as the adopter instead of themselves. Snake food, dog fighting, abuse, etc. Is this the majority? I don’t think so, but these people DO exist and it’s important to ask the right questions to potential adopters to be able to spot them.

3. YOUR KITTENS DESERVE MEDICAL CARE. 🤒
If you love your kittens, you want to be sure that they are dewormed, flea-treated, microchipped and vaccinated at the proper ages. You also want to be sure that your adopter will be able to afford to have them spayed or neutered before they reach sexual maturity (around 4 months of age) or be able to handle an emergency vet bill should one arise. If they can’t afford a small adoption fee, there’s a good chance they won’t be able to afford proper vet care the kitten NEEDS.

4. KITTENS MAY BE RETURNED. 🐈
As an individual, you are not accustomed to rehoming animals everyday. Take it from shelters and rescues… animals are returned for a variety of reasons. Where shelters and rescues have the ability to take them back, you, as an individual, may not. This is a bad situation for the innocent kitten as no one wants it.

If you do not have your mama cat spayed ASAP and you are giving away free, unaltered kittens, you are linking yourself to the huge overpopulation crisis that shelters and rescues are working so hard against everyday. ❌ You HAVE to look at this with a different perspective… the problem is so much bigger than just you and your litter of kittens.

If you are in Lynchburg or the surrounding counties and need help fixing a kitten or cat over the age of 3 months, please send us a message. WE ARE HERE TO HELP! If you are elsewhere, use google to find some resources in your area that may help. 🤓

Do you follow influencers on social media? Have you heard of Elyse Myers? Well, this sweetie is named after her! Meet Elyse! She is an amazing little void of a kitten. Elyse is a kitten who just blends into your home, coming for pets when a lap is free and snuggles with anyone around. She is a low-key kitten who won't climb the curtains or wreak havoc on the home. She gets along with other kitties, but doesn't seek them out. She would be fine to go as the only pet in the house or in a house with other kitties/dogs. It is her turn to find a forever home!
Who has a special place in their hearts for an amazing pocket panther... a perfect little void?

Over the last 3+ years, this rescue has grown exponentially … it’s a place so many people in our community reach out to for help, guidance & kitten education. While it’s a passion for us, I really miss when life was calmer & I had time for lots of neonate snuggles….
