This National Veterinary Technician Week, we're celebrating the incredible Associates who make our hospitals thrive — like Karen, who began as a CSR and never stopped growing and like Joanne, who sought mentorship and support to obtain her VTNE.

At VCA, we're proud to champion our veterinary technicians every step of the way — offering mentorship, encouragement, and the resources to help you reach your full potential.

To every vet tech in our VCA family: thank you. What you do matters deeply — to our teams, to our patients, and to the pet owners who trust us with their most beloved companions.

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

We will be closing at 1pm on Saturday July 1 for an annual all-staff special event and will reopen at our regular time of 8am on Sunday July 2. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you!

On Tuesday July 4, our ER will be open normal hours, from 8a-8p, though our General Practice department will not be on duty that day. Our customer service team and regular phone lines will be operating normally.

Have a safe weekend and Independence Day and keep in mind the impact that fireworks may have on your four-legged family members.

Sincerely,
The team at VCA Salem Animal Hospital

**Hours Change Alert** We are open and seeing both wellness and ER/Urgent Care cases today but WILL be closing at 5pm in order to ensure that our team can all make it home safely prior to sub-freezing temperature. We do plan to be open tomorrow (Friday) and throughout the weekend at our normal hours so that we can best serve patients in need!

**Temporary Location Change for ER, Surgery, Dentistry services**

Beginning Tuesday October 18, due to some structural work being done on our facility, the above services will be provided at our sister location, VCA River Road located at 4975 River Road N in Keizer. Our doctors and support teams will be working at those sites to provide you the same care that you've come to rely upon at VCA Salem. There will be no change to our 8a-8p operating hours.

Please continue to call our regular phone number, 503-581-1438, and our customer service team at VCA Salem will be coordinating at all times with our teams working out of the VCA River Road location.

All regularly scheduled General Practice (non-ER), Technician, and Grooming appointments will continue to occur at VCA Salem as they do not occupy the portion of our facility under construction.

We appreciate your patience and your patients and assure you that our operations should return to normal in 7-10 days.

Sincerely, the team at VCA Salem Animal Hospital

While not something we normally do, one of our team members has found herself the temporary custodian of three kittens (the Torti in the back is taken) born to a stray in her barn, who need homes ASAP. They are all three male - if one of these cute kittens might make the perfect addition to your home, please call 503-581-1438. The kittens do not belong to our hospital and we are not able to provide any medical warranties (but they are free to a good home)

We had a blast with everyone at the Greenhill Humane Society's "Bark in the Park"! The costumes, the dogs, and the people made our day. It was wonderful to meet everyone who stopped by our VCA booth. Congratulations to those who completed the race. It was a howling good time! Until next year, AROOO!!!!

This past weekend a team of our VCA doctors helped the Humane Society of Southwest Washington with their spay and neuter procedures. This partnership not only helps the shelter animals get the medical care they need to be placed in homes faster, but also helps our doctors gain valuable surgical experience. We had four doctors participate in the clinic along with four outstanding members of our veterinary technician team. At VCA we put the future of veterinary medicine first and constantly strive to improve our skills and be the best possible medical team for you and your pets. Great job all!
Surgical mentees: Dr. Yun Ting Agnes Ng (VCA Panther Lake), Dr. Rhianon Desidiri (VCA Crown Hill)
Surgical Mentors: Dr. Terry White (VCA 12 Mile) and Dr. Mary Arpaia (VCA McKenzie)
Technical Staff: Geoffrey Michaels (VCA East Mill Plain), Nica Morgan (VCA 12 Mile), Olivia Whitney (VCA Raleigh Hills), Karen Anderson (VCA Clackamas)

At our hospital, it's part of our wellness routine to help socialize puppies and kittens by carrying them around the hospital to meet and be held by multiple team members. The carrying part was a little more compicated. Yesterday I got to hold at least a half-dozen pupplies, but all together they didn't come close to this 14 week old beauty!

We’re so proud of our Associates, who work so hard to care for your pets, and take care of the future of veterinary medicine every day. Thank you for being part of our story.
