When Deb and Ric adopted Otto, a 150-pound Great Dane, they knew they were going to need help to make him a family pet. He didn't know how to walk nicely on a leash, would jump on people's backs, and would lunge at dogs. Now he makes frequent trips to Home Depot and greets people politely. He can greet other dogs calmly. When people come to the home, he will stay on place until he is told he can greet them. He knows to wait to go up or down the steps until Deb or Ric is off the steps. Yesterday Deb and Otto did an amazing job on the Canine Good Citizen test. We are very proud of them.

Patti Hall is teaching Sarge “circle me”. It might look like she is teaching the dog a trick but it has practical purposes. It is necessary to change hands with the leash and makes people more comfortable handling the leash. By adding some variety to walks, it helps the dog to stay focused and engaged with the owner.

It is important that your dog is comfortable with you grabbing the collar to attach the leash. Grab the collar, say yes, then treat. He will soon think it is a great thing for you to grab the collar.
