Lundberg Siberians We breed for low allergen levels and raise our kittens as part of the family, one litter at a time. Testing kittens is both difficult and expensive.

This is the social page for Lundberg Siberians -- a place to follow along as we raise our litters, and to share photos and mini-stories about the kittens who then became part of your family. "Is *that* kitten available?" If a specific kitten becomes available without a reservation, we'll let you know! Otherwise, we place our kittens with families on the reservation list, with a typical wait time of 6-12 months. We allergen-test most of our litters, and kittens are placed based on a combination of allergen level and a family's position on our reservation list. KittenTesting.com and UC Davis spent five years stabilizing the tests for use in kittens. About 15% of Siberians test in the lowest two allergen ranges. Even the lowest mating can still produce normal allergen kittens. Currently there are 8 catteries listed on the Testing website that are licensed to test allergen levels in kittens. Our prices for tested kittens are similar to theirs. When we receive an inquiry through our website for an area we don't ship to, as a courtesy we refer families to the closest other cattery that tests kittens. Two of us share page management: Chris raises litters in Portland. Sarah occasionally raises a litter, and does the final photography set for most litters. We reserve the right to block unpleasantness of any kind.

Miss Umeko -- or Princess Umeko if you're being formal -- is the only girl of the U litter. She likes to portray a dainty dignity -- but she also likes to be the first to catch the toy. She has a lot of energy, and isn't about to stay on the sidelines when there's fun going on! When we took the U kittens to Meredith's garden for their official photos, we gave her extra time; she seemed the perfect subject for a photo storybook. I adore her chipmunk picture!

We'll get lab results back very soon with the T and U kitten allergen levels. Waitlist families, check your spam folders if you don't hear from me by Friday evening!

Undyne -- European water spirit. I don't know how my son originally decided on that name, but it seems to fit this kitten's grayish tones and sleeker look. He's a little less rambunctious than Umeko and Ulysses, a little more likely to head for cover when someone new arrives, but just as likely to come toward me and my camera, purring, when I want him to stay two feet away.

This is Union, showing off his safety work boots. When I first had a kitten born with white paws, a decade ago, I didn't see what the big deal was. Tom (Lundberg, my brother) said, "You'll see. Wait till the markings darken around the white." He was right -- white paws are adorable! The rest of Union is adorable too. :)

Ulysses! If you think of 'Ulysses' as strong and manly, the name fits. If you think of him a wily schemer, not so much. Kitty Ulysses is a stunning, happy boy whose idea of a perfect life is chasing toys, wrestling siblings, and getting attention from his people. When it came time for his grand adventure - photos in the garden - he was happy just to sit in the sunshine.

Something's out the window, and be it a bird, a blade of tall grass, or a suspiciously plane-shaped man, the U litter is sure to get distracted by it! These kitties oscillated between being perfect angels to photograph and playing happily (with each other, their reflections, and occasionally their own paws); they're lucky that their playing is so darn cute.
Worry not, the U litter -- comprised of Umeko, Union, Ulysses, and Undyne -- was rewarded with cooing and plenty of petting at the end of their moment in the spotlight. And the birds outside are unharmed and unfrightened -- a win for everyone!

We'll be getting lab results back on these kittens this week, and will be selling them by allergen level. We expect them all to go to families already on the waitlist. If one becomes available without a reservation, it will be posted on our website and Facebook. We are briefly open to new applications. However, please note that wait time for families with severe allergies might be two years. The Kennedy family came to Salem yesterday morning to help me with a U litter photo shoot. Whether by name or not, you know Alyssa Kennedy -- she raised the recent Q and R kittens, and has the adorable baby V kittens now. We went to Meredith Lundberg's garden. Alyssa coaxed the kittens back and forth, and the three girls played "catcher" for HOURS. Usually it's maybe 15 minutes/kitten, but we thought we'd see if we could get enough to create a storybook. (Not yet, but we might try again.) Here's a sneak peek at the kittens' 13-week portrait session.

Happiness is wanting what you have. When I set this up, I was thinking the treasure was yarn, but that was missing the obvious. The treasure is a kitten! Usually full of energy, Miss Umeko decided to pose rather than play with ribbons. She is the princess of the litter- the only girl, and a gorgeous girl at that. Dark sunshine, like her mom Sienna, Umeko will be much warmer than a typical Siberian tabby. The other standout about Umeko? She loves water! Which is funny because she's not the one whose name means water sprite.

Bear's turn! Little Bear (aka Tiberius, named after James T Kirk) is a little smaller than his brother Cheddar, but still good-sized. The thing that makes him seem "little" is his expression -- the eye shape, maybe, emphasized by the gorgeous black eyeliner, or perhaps the distance apart they are. There's something rumply and adorable about him. ♥

We expect Bear, Cheddar, and the U kittens to be placed through our current wait list. We will get lab results back next week with their allergen levels. If any of them come back as normal allergen (for families with no cat allergies) or medium allergen for families with extremely mild reactions), they might be available without a reservation. We announced that on our website and Facebook when it happens. We are currently accepting applications to the waitlist-- though the wait time for families with severe allergies is quite long. Cheddar (aka Tesseract) is a big, solid, magazine-model of a kitten. I took him and Bear outside again for their 14-week portraits, posing them on logs and driftwood that I save especially for this purpose. Cheddar loved climbing from one piece to the next -- which was perfect to show off his markings! He and Bear are "sunshine" tabbies, different from orange. Sunshine is a fairly new color name in the Siberian breed. It used to be called "golden," but it's different genetics than the gold in other breeds. There's a wide variation to it; you'll see very different sunshine kittens in the upcoming U litter. Back to Cheddar.... he's a happy-go-lucky kitten, and the waitlist family who gets him will be... well, happy and lucky. :) We'll have lab results next week. I expect the T and U kittens to all go to current waitlist families.
