Lundberg Siberians

Lundberg Siberians We breed for low allergen levels and raise our kittens as part of the family, one litter at a time. Testing kittens is both difficult and expensive.

This is the social page for Lundberg Siberians -- a place to follow along as we raise our litters, and to share photos and mini-stories about the kittens who then became part of your family. "Is *that* kitten available?" If a specific kitten becomes available without a reservation, we'll let you know! Otherwise, we place our kittens with families on the reservation list, with a typical wa

it time of 6-12 months. We allergen-test most of our litters, and kittens are placed based on a combination of allergen level and a family's position on our reservation list. KittenTesting.com and UC Davis spent five years stabilizing the tests for use in kittens. About 15% of Siberians test in the lowest two allergen ranges. Even the lowest mating can still produce normal allergen kittens. Currently there are 8 catteries listed on the Testing website that are licensed to test allergen levels in kittens. Our prices for tested kittens are similar to theirs. When we receive an inquiry through our website for an area we don't ship to, as a courtesy we refer families to the closest other cattery that tests kittens. Two of us share page management: Chris raises litters in Portland. Sarah occasionally raises a litter, and does the final photography set for most litters. We reserve the right to block unpleasantness of any kind.

These two Qreampuffs might be available on a first-come basis tomorrow (Wed 3/25). Waitlist families have through today to reserve them. They're both normal-allergen -- not appropriate for families with cat allergies. They're also both the sooooooftest creature....

You can find out more about these two at www.LundbergSiberians.com/Kittens, and about our reservation process at www.LundbergSiberians.com/Reservations.

Quentin.... And the Doodle. When we say these kittens are raised in the house, with kids and dogs and household busy, we really mean it. We raise them as part of our family, so they're ready to come home to you, and be part of YOUR family.

The Case of the Silent Faucet and Missing Note, Day 1 - Continued

Curses of fleas upon our cousin Panache for not telling Quince *where* she was leaving the note! For us to know that the tub water could be cat-controlled but not know how -- unbearable! Bowl water... it could have been tuna juice and we still wouldn't have been content. Crystalline fountains with guppies to fish for? We'd still be hunting for the note. It was the control that we wanted, more than the water itself.

Qatarina and Qatya thought they could control the crowd, but not a chance. My siblings all mulled around the floor in front of the carriers -- and on the carriers -- and bumped into each in pointless dashes here and there. Time for me to step in!

* More notes filed with individual pictures.

** My pardons for the photo quality, by the way. Humans' phones don't have great cameras, at least not the phone that I borrowed a few times....

The Silent Faucet and the Missing Note - Day 1.
I'm The Chronologer, but you can call me Qlara. Yes, Clara with a Q... but please don't make any jokes about Qronologer; it's not MY fault the humans ran out of Q names!

Also don't call me a secretary. Think of me more like M in James Bond. Qatarina thinks she's in charge but she doesn't DO anything! I, on the other hand, document our lives and put the pieces together. I'm NOT just a pretty face.

So. About the silent faucet.

Last Wednesday, our humans took us to Salem to be tested. We'd wanted to meet our P cousins, but do humans listen? Noooo.... Our cousins had already left for their new homes. So annoying! But we were still psyched about the trip. Here's why --

About three weeks ago, when the humans weren't paying attention, Quince used a human's cell phone to call the P torbie, Panache, and Panache told her a secret. In the Salem home, Panache said, kittens controlled the tub water. Can you imagine? Let me say it again for full effect: Kittens. Controlled. The Tub Water!

Panache was about to explain the whole thing when a human came in and looked around, clearly hunting for his phone. "We'll leave you a note!" Panache hurriedly promised.

All the way to Salem, we whispurred excitedly. The humans opened our carriers and left the room. Could it be? YES! There were the reddish diamonds in the vinyl floor -- there was the loveseat, the tv, the bins -- and THERE was the tub. We all started hunting for Panache's note.

Sometimes people ask me what I mean when I say I'm testing kittens. Cats' allergen levels can be tested via fur tests, but kittens can't be reliably tested with fur. Tom (Lundberg) developed a process for DNA-testing the Fel d1 allergen level from kitten saliva. We use a special proprietary solution to induce just the right amount of salvation. The bitter cotton swab has to stay in the kitten's mouth for much longer than the kitten likes it. (Go figure!) If the kitten get stressed, the allergen levels spike and are inaccurate. If the kitten's mouth is dry, getting even a single drop off the swab can be impossible. If you induce drooling, the allergen levels are diluted and inaccurate.

Getting the precious three drops is much more difficult than you might think. (This is about two drops.) It can take between 5 and 15 minutes, or more, per kitten. A day or two later, we repeat the process for a different vial for each kitten. And later for a third vial. And if we didn't quite get three drops in a vial before risking upsetting kittens too much, we repeat it a fourth day to top off the vials.

The Q litter has eight kittens. Eight kittens x three vials/kitten x three drops..... 😸
