If you are looking to adopt a four-legged friend, please visit www.mcdogs.net to view our adoptable dogs. Our shelter is closed for walk-in visitors and we conduct adoptions by appointment. Planning a trip to Detroit Lake? Here's an important update for pet owners.

A precautionary advisory has been issued for Detroit Lake due to cyanotoxins. Current levels are considered safe for people, but they may still be harmful to pets.

If you're bringing your dog along, take a few extra precautions:
🐕 Keep dogs out of water that is foamy, scummy, or looks like spilled paint.
💧 Don't let them drink lake water or lick algae from rocks, the shoreline, or their fur.
🚿 Rinse your dog with clean water if they come into contact with a bloom.
🚨 Contact a veterinarian right away if your dog shows symptoms such as vomiting, weakness, drooling, or staggering.

We all want our summer adventures to end with happy memories and wagging
tails. Help keep your furry family members safe by knowing what to look for before
they jump in.

Adopt Ivy! Ivy has enjoyed weekend sleep overs with some of our volunteers and they all report that Ivy was the perfect house guest. They reported that she appears house trained and showed no destructive behaviors in the home. She enjoyed plenty of naps and monitoring as the smaller humans worked on homework. Ivy is the perfect size and a complete love!

Visit MCDS and adopt a long-term dog!

From 3/17-3/31, MCDS is offering reduced adoption fees of just $50 for dogs who have been in the shelter for several weeks or months. Visit mcdogs.net for more information!

Please note: Due to staffing, MCDS will be closed on Tuesday 2/17. We will resume regular hours on Wednesday 2/18. The next day that our adoption kennels will be open for walk-through hours is Thursday 2/19.

Thank you Stumptown Strays for helping our beloved Trinity!
Trinity is an approximately 1 year old Alaskan Malamute mix in need of non-urgent medical treatment beyond the resources at Marion County Dog Services. We sent out a plea to our rescue partners and Stumptown Strays immediately answered the call to help. They have taken Trinity into their care and will provide her the medical support she needs before finding her the perfect home. The staff and volunteers are so grateful to Stumptown Strays for giving Trinity the help she deserves. MCDS works closely with many rescue partners and through those collaborations and teamwork we can all make a difference for the dogs of Marion County.
