I really appreciate all the love and support I’ve been receiving, and everyone reaching out to check up on me. I’ve been feeling very self conscious about how I look from the facial paralysis and haven’t wanted others to see me. I decided to do a video anyways to share my experience and what I’ve been dealing with with the hopes of providing a little education around Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, and to encourage others to take steps to help protect themselves against this happening to them.
Anyone who has had chicken pox has had the varicella zoster virus, and after chickenpox clears, that virus can remain dormant in nerve tissue for life. Years later it can reactivate as shingles. When it reactivates in or near certain facial/ear nerves it can cause Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.
This has been an absolutely terrible experience so far. I strongly suggest considering getting the shingles vaccine as a way to help reduce the risk of this ever happening to you.
