- Honeydew’s Story: It Takes a Village -
At just 4 months old, Honeydew’s future looked heartbreakingly short.
She arrived at our rescue in 2024 with a severely broken leg after being placed on a euthanasia list. She was just a puppy - scared, hurting, and out of time. We knew we couldn’t let her story end there.
The moment she arrived, she was rushed to Tanasbourne Emergency Vet for surgery. Thanks to this incredible community, every dollar needed for that first surgery was raised. Honeydew finally had a chance.
But healing wasn’t that simple.
As she recovered, it became clear she would need a second major surgery - an FHO procedure costing thousands of dollars. Once again, help arrived. A very generous donation from Angela Roach fully covered the cost of her first surgery just in time for Christmas, giving Honeydew the gift she needed most: hope.
Then came months of physical therapy at SOAR. Week after week, her devoted foster drove her to appointments, celebrated every tiny victory, and never gave up on her. Slowly, Honeydew learned how to use her leg again. She grew stronger. More confident. More joyful. And in less pain.
Once she graduated physical therapy she spent time at Zoomie World Dog Daycare. She learned some basic life skills and blossomed into an incredible young dog.
And then, after nearly a year of healing, growing, and waiting, the perfect family found her.
After multiple trial visits to make sure it was the right fit, Honeydew finally got what every rescue dog deserves: a forever home. A family completely in love with her. A future filled with adventure, comfort, and unconditional love.
Honeydew’s happy ending didn’t happen because of one person.
It happened because of a village.
Because of donors.
Because of fosters.
Because of veterinarians.
Because of trainers.
Because of physical therapists.
Because of photographers
Because people chose to care.
Medical dogs and long-term rescue cases are expensive, time-consuming, and often heartbreaking. But Honeydew is proof that they are worth every single effort.
