What do you know about muzzle training? π€
When most folks see a muzzled dog out in public they automatically assume the dog is aggressive based on the use of the muzzle. If you've ever been recommended to use a muzzle by a dog trainer it may feel uncomfortable or make you nervous about the implications. The word "muzzle" has a heavily negative connotation and has gotten a bad rap; did you know muzzles can be used for so much more than aggression?
It's true that muzzles can be used to prevent aggressive dogs from making contact with other people and dogs, but it's a useful tool that can also...
-prevent a dog from eating animal waste,
-prevent an overexcited dog from redirecting onto their human,
-provide a sense of comfort to a reactive dog to prevent explosive barking spells,
-communicate to other humans that your dog isn't friendly,
-allow dogs that play too rough to not give the wrong signals when playing with other dogs and prevent accidental injury,
..and lots more! The muzzle is a tool that helps dogs navigate the world, not unlike a collar or leash! Many, many dogs use a muzzle for an array of reasons, and if it suits your dog for any reason it's absolutely not a failing on you or your dog. Every tool in your toolbox has a reason, and all tools used correctly and compassionately have a purpose!
