B*H of America, Pebble Springs Jockey Club, Alabama Chapter
B*HA -AL- Pebble Springs Jockey Club

There is a B*HA chapter, that is undertaking the responsibility to bring the equine part of St. Stephens Historical Park back to life.

Here, you will ride along tree covered trails where the Tombigbee River is on one side and part of the 70-acre Lake Quarry is on your other. Views are unsurpassable. Once the trail opens to a split, to your left is unlimited scenery of hardwoods and pines to stroll along under. If you opt for the right trail, you will come to Old Town.
The town site of historic Old St. Stephens is one of the greatest archaeological assets in the state of Alabama. Because the town was abandoned and remained virtually undisturbed for over 100 years, the area will provide unprecedented glimpses into the lives of pioneer Alabamians in the early 1800s.

🐎 The Trails:
•There are over 20 miles of trails for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. This is a shared trail system, people are very responsible in yielding to riders.
•Nothing with a motor is allowed on the trails except for Park Maintenance and the B*HA Chapter "Volunteer Help Days" where equipment may be needed beyond what a equine/rider can get.
•Trails are mixed terrain that will take you along rivers, lakes, quarry's and views that are breathtaking.
•Dogs are allowed on Trails but they must remain on a leash.
•Trails are undergoing maintenance and being marked (Aug 2023 - Current)
•Boots or Shoes are not required, but there are some trails that have rocks. If your horse hard soled, you may be okay.
•Swim with your Equine in a specifically designated area! Great way to end the day
•Ride between the Tombigbee River and the Lake Quarry on the Yellow Trail leaving camp from the front stalls.
•Ride past a Beaver pond leaving from the equine campground.

🫏 Trail encounters:
•Indian Baths - Something to behold! Great place to tie your horse and have lunch and think about 'what once was'
•Old Town - The town is an active archaeological site. It is noted to have 30 taverns and not a single church in town. 3,000 to 5,000 people are said to have lived here. Great place to walk along and take in everything displayed and viewed. I stepped out of the trail and just fell in love with the town as it stands. So rich in History and Legend tales.
•There is a Cliff that I have dubbed "Little Utah". It is a great photo op from the top or the bottom. If you are lucky and have someone with you, have them take yours from the bottom while you are up top.
•There is a quarry that you can climb in and out of. Test your ability and that of your trail mount. Gather Smiles as you do.
•You will cross creek beds and if it is a wet season, you will have water. Indian Baths is a constant, but you must carry water back to your mount. At no time are you more than 25 minutes from camp but you feel miles away.

🏕 Jockey Club Campground: (shared with RV Campers as well!)
•Five Full hook ups
•40' LQ can access all sites, leaving truck hooked.
•If, the equine campground is full, there is a regular campground where your trailer can be parked and hooked up. ***Equine are not allowed in the regular campground.
•Power to stalls in the Equine Campground, Water and Covered shed row of 32 stalls.
•Don't have a LQ? No problem! There are cabins available and stalls at the front of the park, consist of Board with a Panel Front. They have No Power. •Water is Available
•Round Pen
•Trail Head Marker and trails are marked throughout
•Public Restroom located by the office.
•Bath House is located up the street (driving distance) You will pass them on your way in.
