ā€œMy puppy has Demodex. Is it genetic?ā€ šŸ”šŸ¾

An owner asked this about their young English Bulldog, along with a question about spaying. It’s a good reminder that puppy demodicosis and widespread adult demodicosis need different conversations.

I walk through their questions in the Q&A.

Read the owner’s question and my answer.

That honk came from your Bulldog?! 🪿🐶

Reverse sneezing can sound dramatic and scary: rapid snorts, a stretched neck, then back to bulldog business.

The cause may be unknown, BOAS related, or something else. Frequent or severe episodes, nasal discharge, nosebleeds, or other signs of illness deserve a veterinary check.

Read my guide to what may be behind that honk.

5 Bulldog Allergy Myths That Waste Money & Keep Your Dog Itching!Ā šŸ’ø

That’s the topic ofĀ Dr. Kraemer’s FREE August Bully Newsletter!Ā šŸ“©

Ā And GREAT job on the Allergy Quiz! Here are a few answers that may surprise you:

šŸ—Ā Food allergies are uncommon.Ā When a food allergy does occur, theĀ protein sourceĀ (chicken, beef, etc.) is usually the allergen NOTĀ the grain! 🌾

🌿 Unlike people, dogs usually don’t develop allergies byĀ inhalingĀ allergens. Environmental allergens primarily trigger reactions through theĀ skin.

🪲 Flea Allergy & Atopic Dermatitis are by far the most common allergic skin diseases. NUMBER THREE ON THE QUIZ

🦷 Did you know Bulldogs & Frenchies get Subgingival Hair?

That's the medical term for hair getting trapped under the gums, packed between the teeth, or even embedded in the roof of the mouth!

Ā Left untreated, it can collect bacteria and lead to painful dental disease, tooth loss, and even an oronasal fistula.

Ā The good news? Prevention is easy! A quick daily wipe withĀ Bully Antiseptic Dental WipesĀ removes trapped hair in seconds—painless, simple, and costs next to nothing.Ā ā¤ļø
