Friends of Strays Animal Shelter Friends of Strays is St. Pete's oldest no-kill shelter. We believe love saves lives, and everyone can be part of that work.
(459)

From adoptions and community cat programs, we saved over 4,200 lives in 2025! Petersburg’s oldest no kill animal shelter. Founded in 1978, our top priority is to connect animals in need of rescue with people who will love them. With thousands of cats and dogs entering our shelter every year, Friends of Strays’ staff and volunteers provide the utmost love and care for every animal that comes through our doors. Through our outreach, advocacy, and social service we strive to ensure that animal companionship is accessible to all. In addition to pet adoption, we seek to create a better world for pets and people by focusing on life saving programs promoting pet retention, community empowerment, and humane pet ownership education. We are heavily dependent on the altruism of the public for our sustained success on behalf of these animals. For more, please visit our website: friendsofstrays.org. Donate
Donations directly support the care of the animals in our shelter as well as our many lifesaving programs throughout the community. Thoughtful and generous bequests from estates allow us to finance the essential lifesaving services we provide for the companion animals in our care. Please consider leaving a legacy, honoring a loved one through a Tribute, making a one time or reoccurring donation or sponsoring one of our events. Friends of Strays is a 501(c) charitable non-profit organization. Please support us by donating today at friendsofstrays.org/donate

As the Tampa Bay Rays score runs in the World Series this weekend in Game 1 and 2, adopters can score a home run of their own by adopting an adult cat or dog friend at Friends of Strays for a discounted adoption fee! 💙⚾

Friends of Strays is hosting an adoption special: "Strays for Rays: A World Series Adoption Special!" From Friday, Oct. 23 to Sunday, Oct. 25, adopters can draw a Rays jersey card from a basket, and the player's number on the card they draw will determine the discount off the adoption fee for the adult cat or dog they've chosen.

🐾We’re open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday for adoptions.🐾

Ring Ring🐕 and Hello🐕‍🦺 are so excited to cheer on the Tampa Bay Rays in the World Series! ⚾💙

These 5-month-old girls can't wait to join in on their respective family's watch parties! Just like Chandler Simpson, these girls are quick on their feet and hope their future families will have just as much fun as them playing catch and fetch.

Ring Ring🐕 and Hello🐕‍🦺 are hoping you come in soon to meet them so they don't miss out on a single second of the Tampa Bay Rays' World Series thrill and celebration with you!

If you are looking for a dog for your family that is fun-loving, snuggly, and looks great in Ray's gear, consider adopting Ring Ring🐕 or Hello🐕‍🦺!

Note: We estimate Ring Ring and Hello will be considered large dogs and over 44 pounds fully grown.

🐾We’re open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday for adoptions. 🐾

It's ! We want to take the time to highlight our incredible veterinary technicians at Friends of Strays, who always go above and beyond in taking such incredible care of our animals and are always cheerful to answer any questions foster families and prospective adopters may have. 💚💙

Our vet techs put immense energy, love, and devotion into looking after our animals by providing them life-saving care and helping them become their healthiest and happiest selves. 🐾💛

A couple of weeks ago we made a post about Scout, a 2-year-old bright-eyed dog, who was transferred into our shelter with a substantial leg injury.

Our medical team determined through some x-rays that Scout had a broken femur, a severely dislocated hip, and a bullet lodged in his side.

Due to the intensity of these injuries, Scout had to undergo a leg amputation surgery while in our care.

His operation was highly successful, and Scout spent some time in foster recovering and rehabilitating, where he quickly adjusted to only having 3 legs. He is still able to do all his favorite activities including: going on walks, receiving belly rubs, and playing with other furry friends. 🐾💕

Scout has since been adopted by a family who adores him, and he has already made himself at home, claiming the comfiest spot on the family couch as his own. 🛋️💤

We are so thankful for all the positive messages everyone sent to Scout and our medical team. 💚💙

Friends of Strays is able to provide life-saving care to animals in need, like Scout, with support from the community.

When you donate to Friends of Strays, your money goes directly to shelter animals in need. 🦮🐈‍⬛

If you’re able, please consider donating to Friends of Strays so we can save the next animal, like Scout, that comes into our shelter. 💛

You can donate using the link or bio or at www.friendsofstrays.org/donate! 💚💙
