From adoptions and community cat programs, we saved over 4,200 lives in 2025! Petersburg’s oldest no kill animal shelter. Founded in 1978, our top priority is to connect animals in need of rescue with people who will love them. With thousands of cats and dogs entering our shelter every year, Friends of Strays’ staff and volunteers provide the utmost love and care for every animal that comes throug

h our doors. Through our outreach, advocacy, and social service we strive to ensure that animal companionship is accessible to all. In addition to pet adoption, we seek to create a better world for pets and people by focusing on life saving programs promoting pet retention, community empowerment, and humane pet ownership education. SUNDAY, JUNE 21: Charity Dog Bath Day at Dog Bar St. Pete!
🐾 Treat your pup to a spa day from 1-5 p.m. while you try out our (strong) Jello shots, all benefiting Friends of Strays! 🐾 Our volunteers will scrub them up while you kick back and relax at the bar.
Bath Prices:
🛁 $10 for small dogs
🛁 $15 for medium dogs
🛁 $20 for large dogs
Each bath includes a thorough ear cleaning and a gentle towel dry. Nail trims are an additional $5 for dogs who don't mind!

Ringo Starr is FeLV+ (Feline Leukemia Virus), which is contagious to other cats in the household but has no effect on humans. Ringo's home should either be an only-cat household or one that includes another FeLV+ sibling.

Ringo Starr is the star of the show here at FOS and enjoys the limelight! He loves all the attention, pets, and cuddles he can get! He will strut up to you with all his voluminous fur and sway his tail for rubs.

Our sweet Starr boy is a 10-year-old young soul who is looking for a human bandmate to tour life with.

Hooley Dooley's personality is as delectable as butter! He's a shy guy upon meeting, but once he warms up to you, he will melt into your arms!

This 4-year-old little guy would benefit from going home to a family who will help him continue growing his confidence. He seems to get along with other dogs of similar size and nature but isn't a fan of cats. If you have a dog at home already, bring them in for a meet and greet!

Mezcal was born with congenital deformities in both his back legs that have caused his bones to grow abnormally and his knees to dislocate severely. We are working with a specialized surgeon and will cover the costs of his current treatment plan, which will include additional surgeries when he is around 9 months old.

Due to his medical needs, Mezcal is available by foster-to-adopt until his care plan is complete. Interested adopters must fill out an adoption application, and Friends of Strays staff will select a future adopter after additional conversation regarding his needs. Mezcal may be small, but he's nothing short of magnificent! He has been waiting over a month for someone to see past his medical condition for the sweet pup he is, but sadly he's gotten no applications.

He was born with congenital deformities in both his back legs that have caused his bones to grow abnormally and his knees to dislocate severely. We are working with a specialized surgeon and will cover the costs of his current treatment plan, which will include additional surgeries when he is around 9 months old.

Mezcal has an incredible medical team, including a specialized surgeon that has been working on a treatment plan that includes multiple surgeries and follow-up care, which we will provide for.

He has been making excellent progress and wants to continue his medical journey while living out his puppyhood with a family to call his.
