πΎ Think ESAs are just dogs and cats? Think again!
Emotional Support Animals aren't limited to one species. The Fair Housing Act doesn't list which animals qualify β the real question is whether your animal genuinely helps ease symptoms related to your disability.
While dogs and cats are the most common (and usually the easiest to get accommodated without pushback), rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, and even miniature pigs have all been recognized as valid ESAs.
That said, "allowed in theory" isn't the same as "reasonable in practice." Housing providers can still weigh things like:
β
Size and space needs
β
Safety
β
Potential property impact
β
Local or HOA rules
If your ESA is a less common species, your letter matters even more β it should clearly connect that specific animal to your treatment needs, not just say "an ESA."
