Everyone wants the result.

Very few people train the process.

Off leash reliability and loose leash walking is built through thousands of repetitions, clear communication, and a relationship strong enough that the dog chooses you over everything else around them.

The freedom comes last.

The work comes first.

Being a dog trainer means your everyday “walks” somehow turn into training sessions.

Sitting on sidewalks. Random down stays. Watching buses go by. Practicing calmness around distractions most dogs would completely lose their minds over.

What makes moments like this even more special to me is that this is the same dog that used to react to every movement, sound, and distraction around him.

People see the off leash freedom, the neutrality, and the calmness in public and think it just “happens”…but that kind of trust and reliability is built through hundreds of small moments like this. Real-world reps, consistency, structure, and a relationship strong enough that the dog still chooses you even when the environment is distracting. 🖤

We come out here pretty regularly to train, so it’s a familiar environment for him at this point. Just continuing to put reps in, build consistency, and keep him engaged in real-world settings.

I can’t wait to keep building on what we already have — not only his skills, but mine as a handler too — and continuing to develop through the work together.

Most people want off leash freedom, but skip the part that makes it possible. Freedom like this doesn’t just happen. It’s built through training, structure, and putting in the work even when you don’t necessarily feel like it.
