The story about Cole that I hoped someday to share, wasn’t meant to be.
We had him for 8 days. A rescue not even located in Minnesota tagged him, I rushed to become a foster and he moved in 10 days ago.
Found as a stray, he was chaotic and anxious, we knew what we were up against. He had a record and it wasn’t great, but deep down he did love two people and we fell hard for him, too. He broke leashes, long lines, a kid pool, got sick, wouldn’t crate, bought him fu***ng straw and in the end he just needed someone to tell him you’re going in your crate. He had to. He wasn’t safe, trustworthy or reliable.
We worked him, played with him, cuddled (as he allowed), loved him and most of all gave him the world in the short time he was with us.
The Belgium Malinois is one of my favorite breeds. I’d never had one in my home before and having him makes me love the breed even more.
In the end, even a very experienced handler would have their work fu**in cut out w this dog. Even more, he would never have been placable in the average home.
He was humanely euthanized with us by his side, through the end, the tears and the agony of realizing how much he impacted us.
Please be kind to this breed. They deserve nothing less.
