Better late than never!

On August 22 & 23, just before school resumed, we had the pleasure of riding in a clinic with Cathy Jones-Forsberg. Cathy is a well accomplished professional event rider, a lovely human being, and a life long friend of our fearless leader, Terri.

Thanks to Meg’s Riding Academy for hosting such a fun and educational weekend! We look forward to the next Cathy clinic!!

We have had an uptick in bat activity at the farm due to vast amount of insects after all the rain we had recently, so we elected to have all the horses and cats receive a rabies vaccine booster. Rabies is NOT a disease take a chance on!

**Please read the attached release** A second bat specimen submitted to IDPH has tested positive for rabies. The bat was collected for testing following a potential human exposure in Monticello. As a precaution, all are receiving post-exposure treatment. It is important to note that a potential exposure does not mean that a person has tested positive for the virus. A potential exposure is defined as any situation where prolonged close contact or bite from a bat cannot be ruled out.

Increased awareness and prompt reporting of bats found inside the home remain the best recommended actions for all residents.

Although two bats have tested positive for rabies in the past week, the CDC estimates that nationwide, less than 6% of bats test positive for the virus.

If you have any questions or want to report a bat in the home, please contact our Infection Control Nurse at (217) 935-3427. She will guide you through any additional steps and determine if a potential exposure exists.
