Call this a rant or a reality check. Me blowing steam. Maybe it will even open the minds of those who are SO ridiculously closed minded.... opinions aren't facts.
This is the year 2026. Where human genders can be changed, cars drive themselves, and everything but the pay has gone to astronomically insane highs. This leads to topic one. Poodles can't be merle. SO many people hate on a COLOR of a dog. A well bred, tested, beautiful, healthy, happy, registered dog because of its color?! We have evolved, well most of us anyways, and know that it is reality that the world is always progressing. So, why is it SO hard to comprehend that NO dog breed, currently recognized or not, started out as that? Mother nature did NOT just grow a puppy from every single breed seed one day. The now breeds were established by breeding one "breed" of dog to another "breed". They. All. Started. As. Muts. Over time, these breeds, now actually a real thing and recognized, came to have a "standard" per breed that was recommended to be followed and upheld to preserve each now breed of dog. Pleeeeeeeeease Google Frenchies then vs now. Look at danes, mastiffs, look at them all if you want! I'll wait for someone to prove to me that these "breeds" look the same then vs now. Just like humans, right!? Apparently we evolved from primates and neanderthals but over time.....look at (some of) us now!! Mind blown, right?! 🤯 So why is it that this type of thing is cool and understood, structural changes, behavioral, size, etc, but a color can't be true bcuzzzzzzz.....of why?! Legitimately...tell me?! A poodle may not have been merle then, evolution has done its thing, and guess what ..2026...merle pure poodles are real! Not ai. Not mythical creatures.Their AKC isnt hung and their testing isn't false, their health isn't bad. They are just poodles. 2026..... DNA testing is real now. A test saying 100 percent of a breed is a breed. Lol oh, facts, AKC will register a dog who's DNA test doesn't say pure btw....just fyi. A merle poodle, is a poodle. How do u figure these other colors got into there? Or these other "breeds" who have non standard colors? And if these DNA tests showing pure aren't accurate or don't matter, why are these same people out here trolling about if u don't test, ur a POS?! Hmmmmm.
Teenys....good ole numero dos. It is true tiny dogs have certain health risks. But that's not having an issue, that's having a risk. Just like when a human gets in their car to go to their daily job. Or if u buy a 200 lb dog with risk of hip issues. There's a risk. Risk does not equal happening. It means it can, not that it will for sure happen. Do your due diligence. We here do teeny, but we're not stupid or uneducated and we do a lot to prevent common tiny dog issues from day ONE!
3rd, my favorite. Don't buy from a reputable, ethical breeder. Buy, yes, pay for, a shelter or rescue. Please be aware, before I bred dogs, I did foster and rescue and have nothing against anyone helping an animal. But a LOT of these places are jewing you. Real talk. Vetting and food and care and everything is often paid for and donated or heavily discounted ... But they charge a HUGE amount of money for a dog who is unpredictable and has no known history. If you can handle a shelter dog please go for it, but don't bash a breeder who is ethical and cares about their dogs just bcuz other dogs are in a shelter or Sally down the road had 46 dogs in one cage outside. Or a buyer of ours who appreciates the pros of our type of forever friend.
Shelters and rescues are shady too. Not always but sure can be. Get what u 'pay' for. They even make shady deals with the people they take animals from. Look it up. Ask around. Oh!! And what about how many pure dogs who ppl paid good money for...are they in shelters?! No. It matters. I'm not sad to say, it matters. You buy a Ford Ta**us for $400 vs a Ford Ta**us for $5000, statistics shows what owner is going to get a better ride home.
We never see the good stories being blasted on the media. Only the bad. That's not how it is....the good gets less attention so the bad that gets reactions is pushed.... It's not that hard to wrap your head around if u ask me.
Deposits....this one!! Oh my this one. A career breeder doesn't have time to sit here and dilly dally with an indecisive person. You want the dog. You pay the deposit. It's held til an agreed timeframe. This secures our time...our valuable time, is paid for even if you back out. We still held our end up...not the other way around.. This shows us you are serious and want the dog. If you aren't sure, don't place a deposit. If you change your mind afterwards, that's on you. Not a breeder. The breeder told other interested, maybe more serious people, the dog is sold. Now a few weeks later you don't want the dog and we are left trying to move a dog who was sold and unavailable. This isn't his life works. Most have a contract stating deposits aren't refundable. If you don't read it or you don't think the breeder will follow thru on that, that is on u too. Deposit, non-refundable even, does NOT mean it's a scam. Can it? Yep! Always? Nope. It's us protecting ourselves. CYOA!!! It's not scammy it's just not selfless. We do not have to be selfless. Again, due diligence.
Finally. Ethical vs BYB. What's a BYB aka backyard breeder you ask? That's the person who sees puppies selling online for what they believe is so easy to do and they KNOW it makes huge profit. Yeah...not how it works. Vetting, food, lots and lots of other things go into it. Money and non money things. The p**p. The p*e. The smells. The losses that are unpreventable at times. Our broken hearts and tears. Up every 2 freaking hours tending to the litter and mom. Sleeping next to them while others rest all nice in peace in a bed. Sleepless night and days. A byb sees fast money. Not bettering the breed or preserving it. They will toss a dog in a cage (or 2 or 7, let's be real). The dogs wellbeing and life means nothing to them. Some won't even vet them. No health testing. Nothing. Bare minimum IF that. Mixed breeds. Not a lot of known history bcuz they don't rabbit hole names on pedigrees like a breeder. I make money. But sometimes, often times, the return is a long wait and the expenses out are barely more than profit. Let us not forget the food these little growing piggies eat. DUE DILIGENCE.
Shipping. Crating. Discipline. Training. Home visits. Ridiculous expectations of 8 week old puppies. The list will go on for days if I name it all. Those are another day's topic I'm sure as someone will drive me to this level of wtf again....but this one is long enough.
I strongly feel there should be a law requiring some sort of proof you comprehend everything that it takes to be an ethical breeder. And proof u stay as so. A good one. The only kind that should be. Maybe laws, classes, etc mandatory with harsher punishment? Idk. Something.
Stop blaming everyone but urself and take accountability for your actions. Ask your breeder questions cuz if they are anything like me and my career breeder buds , we love to talk dog and have zero issues chatting for 2 hours about them.
The public doesn't see the background noise. They assume. They jump on bandwagons. Opinions are not facts. Bashing is SO easy when you can post anonymously behind a keyboard.
I am a career breeder. I have accepted the responsibility of another lifeform in my care. That life is precious...or should be... This job feeds my family and funds my life. This is my livelihood. Like so many others. And for what reason does anyone have or think they have the right to try to wreck that?!
U mad? U jelly? Are you mentally ill? Have u lived in my shoes for an hour? Seen my home and dogs in person? The factual answer is NO! Stop judging everyone but your damn self. Grow up and step on off that high horse because the angle isn't flattering. Ask questions, politely, and gather FACTS and EVIDENCE before you start some drama on social media. 🙄 I'm no longer shocked that we have to put " do not eat" on laundry soap.
