Have you ever heard of a pyometra? 🐾
A "pyometra" is a serious bacterial infection of the uterus that can occur in unaltered (or not spayed) female dogs and cats. This can become life-threatening quickly.
Signs you may notice at home can include:
• Lethargy
• Loss of appetite
• Vomiting or diarrhea
• Increased thirst or urination
• A swollen or painful abdomen
• Vaginal discharge
But here’s the tricky part-not every pet with a pyometra will have visible discharge.
If your pet isn’t acting like herself and you’re concerned something may be wrong, don’t wait to have her checked. We see and surgically treat pyometras regularly here at Lava Rock Veterinary Hospital and are here when you need us. 🏥🧡
