We are a mobile Large Animal Veterinary Practice serving Osceola, Orange, Brevard and portions of Seminole counties. In additional we provide special laboratory services including bioPRYN blood pregnancy testing on cattle, Johne's and BVD-PI testing and modified Mc Masters f***l testing. Appointments are seen Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm, office hours hours are 9 am - 4:30pm, emergency services available for routine clients.

🐴🚛 LET’S TALK HEALTH CERTIFICATES! 📋

Whether you’re headed across the state or across the country, we want to help get you and your animals on the road as smoothly as possible! There are just a couple of important things we need from you to make that happen. 😊

📋 First up: The Health Certificate Worksheet

When you schedule a Health Certificate appointment, our office will email you a Health Certificate Worksheet. We ask that you please complete and return it to us at least 24 HOURS BEFORE your appointment.

And when we say we need it ahead of time…we really do. 😉❤️

The information on that worksheet allows our team to prepare for your appointment, verify important details, and help ensure your Health Certificate is completed accurately and efficiently.

Trying to gather addresses, animal information, destination details, and other required information while everyone is standing at the trailer is not nearly as much fun as it sounds. 😄

So please help us help you: complete that worksheet and get it back to us at least 24 hours before your appointment!

🚙 Now, about WHERE your appointment will take place…

We are always happy to complete Health Certificate appointments on location when we have a veterinarian working in your area and our schedule allows.

However, because our veterinarians cover a large service area, there may be times when we simply cannot accommodate an on-farm Health Certificate appointment in a particular area or on a particular day.

When that happens, we will be happy to schedule your animals to come to our clinic for their Health Certificate instead.

We know hauling in may not always be your first choice, and we will accommodate on-location appointments whenever we reasonably can. But with travel deadlines involved, sometimes coming to us is the best—or only—way we can get your Health Certificate completed in time.

❤️ The short version:

📧 Watch for your worksheet after scheduling.
⏰ Return it at least 24 hours before your appointment.
🚛 On-location appointments are available when our route and schedule allow.
🏥 If we cannot get to your area, your animals will need to come to the clinic.

A little preparation on the front end helps us keep your appointment running smoothly, your paperwork accurate, and most importantly…you and your animals headed where you need to go! 🐴🚛💨

After 13 years of dedicated service, our wonderful lab technician Chelle is moving on to her next adventure! ❤️

For more than a decade, Chelle has been an important part of our team and has helped care for countless samples, clients, and animals behind the scenes. While we are excited for her and what comes next, we are certainly going to miss having her here!

Fun Fact Friday!

If you guessed FAMACHA scoring, you would be correct! FAMACHA scoring is a process of evaluating the mucous membranes within the eyelid. This gives a rough estimate of anemia level secondary to worm burden. Typically, the fewer parasites, the better FAMACHA (more red in color). Small ruminants with higher parasite loads will have a worse FAMACHA (pale pink/white) With peak parasite season around the corner, it is important to monitor your herd's FAMACHA, as it will help dictate which animals to treat for parasites!

Following the detection of the New World Screwworm in South Texas, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson today took aggressive action and issued Emergency Rule 5CER26-6, which places heightened restrictions on the importation of warm-blooded animals into Florida from designated infested zones and high-risk areas.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has provided an important update on New World Screwworm which has been detected in a bovine in Zavala County, Texas. General information about New World Screwworm (NWS) can be found in the text below and in the attached infographic.

The adult screwworm fly is about the size of a common housefly (or slightly larger), with orange eyes, a metallic blue or green body, and three dark stripes along its back. It gets its name from the behavior of its larvae (maggots) as they burrow (screw) into the wound, feeding as they go. The maggots (larvae) cause extensive damage by tearing at the hosts’ tissue with sharp mouth hooks. The wound can quickly become enlarged and deeper as more maggots hatch and feed on living tissue.

Because they feed on live flesh, NWS maggots may burrow deep into wounds or openings, while other species of maggots may appear around the outer surface of the wound. In addition, even the smallest wounds have the potential to attract flies, so it is imperative that you keep a close eye on your animals for any signs of wounds.

Lastly, NWS infestations are a reportable disease! Immediately report any suspicious wounds, maggots, or infestations to a local accredited veterinarian, your State Animal Health Official, or a USDA veterinarian.

While there are many different names for this ailment, one thing is certain: parasites flourish in Florida, affecting our livestock species and horses. With our seasonal rains approaching summertime, it is crucial to be aware of these pesky parasites, and how best to treat them!
