Let’s Talk About Leptospirosis

Many breeders still warn pet owners against the leptospirosis vaccine because of concerns based on older versions of the vaccine. However, lepto vaccines have improved significantly over the years, and we do not see the reactions that were once commonly associated with them.

At West End Animal Care Clinic, we use the Nobivac ½ mL vaccine, which provides protection in a smaller-volume dose.

Leptospirosis is a serious bacterial disease spread through the urine of infected animals and contaminated water, puddles, mud, or soil. It can cause severe kidney and liver damage, multi-organ failure, and even death.

Lepto is also zoonotic, meaning it can be transmitted from animals to people. After a positive case entered our clinic, more than half of our staff had to take a course of prophylactic antibiotics because of possible exposure.

Vaccinating your dog does more than protect your pet—it helps protect your entire family from this potentially deadly disease.

This past Saturday was our Quantum day. Over 14 dogs went home fully protected against Fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites. Thank you to Merck animal health and Idexx laboratories for helping.
