Phoebe's success story (plus a collage of pictures of her journey) ☺️
“I bought my first horse, Phoebe, almost 2 years ago. About 9 months later, when Phoebe started showing - frankly - explosive behavior when being saddled, I knew something was not right with her and called my vet. Dr. Mallory and Jolee came out soon after for a performance evaluation that revealed mild kissing spine (for lack of remembering the clinical term). I was both devastated but feeling finally validated after being told by many that her back was not a problem. I felt finally heard and that there was someone in my and Phoebe's corner who could help getting her back to her former self.
Since being diagnosed in July of 2025, Phoebe's story has encountered many ups and downs, but what has remained constant has been Dr. Mallory (and Jolee's) ongoing veterinary advice, support, cheerleading, and collaboration with other service professionals including chiropractic and farrier. Dr. Mallory has never dismissed any of my questions or concerns and has always graciously answered any of my anxious, new(er) horse mom questions!
Dr. Mallory was willing to meet me where I was at and try the lesser invasive treatments first, including mesotherapy twice, before we discussed and decided it would be in Phoebe's best interests to try back injections or Shockwave. Since Shockwave was out of my budget, Dr. Mallory did back injections in June of 2026 - and worked with my farrier on farrier x-rays to ensure her hoof angles were proper. Since then, Phoebe has been moving the best she ever has! Her recovery/rehab has been speeding by, supported further by bodywork and restarting consistent training/lessons with a trainer. Phoebe's able to use her body correctly without pain - and just a couple weeks ago, we had our first proper ride back in the saddle. It could not have gone any better! Phoebe was calm and relaxed not only getting saddled, but also during the entire ride: sporting a droopy lower lip and acting like we never missed a day. I was so happy that I cried.
I couldn't wait to text Dr. Mallory and tell her how well it went, and she celebrated with us! I have my riding horse back! I don't believe it would have been possible without Mallo Equine's dedicated services and support throughout this process. It's still early, but I feel so positive and optimistic about Phoebe's outlook! And I know that if anything starts feeling wrong, I can turn to Dr. Mallory anytime for additional questions, support, diagnostics, and treatments. Thank you, Mallo Equine! ❤️”
