Today is a special day. Today is the day Harlan Animal Shelter received their NO KILL STATUS!
Just over a year ago, Shelby and I headed down to Harlan, KY to do our first transport with them. We had spoken to them before hand and heard the struggles they were up against. Hearing those struggles and seeing them are two different things. They were all so welcoming and grateful to us for making the trip down and pulling dogs from the shelter to bring back up to our fosters.
The second we pulled out of there i looked at Shelby and we both had tears in our eyes. The unwavering dedication, compassion, warmth and love they had in their hearts shined through to us. We talked the entire ride home about them. When we got home i sent a VERY loooong email (lol) to Best Friends Network explaining what they were up against, how amazing all of the people there were, and asking how they could help us help them. Best friends scheduled a call with us, they got in touch with Ryan at Harlan and the work began.
All of the staff and volunteers at Harlan have worked their literal asses off to achieve this status this past year. They’ve gone through training for various things, switched up protocols, and have ensured they do the best for the dogs, as they always have.
We are so grateful for the relationship we’ve built with them this past year, and look forward to MANY years to come working with them and pulling as many dogs as we can from them.
Please help us give Harlan a HUGE congratulations and give them a follow if you’re not already following them. Also, a HUGE thank you to Carrie at Best Friends, who from the moment we reached out to you, read our long emails, listened to us and dedicated so much to the absolutely amazing people and dogs at Harlan ❤️❤️ and of course our amazing foster homes who welcome these dogs into their homes while they find their furever homes. You are apart of the reason this was possible!
