Teamwork makes the dream work! Happiest of 1st birthdays to LUMI! His guardian reached out with new updates on his progress:

"Thank you for connecting me and Lumi with Amanda for teeth-brushing training.

We have been practicing the technique every day since then and I am happy to report that now he is letting me use an actual tooth brush instead of a wipe.

I sit down with him once every day for "general maintenance” which includes hair brushing and teeth brushing, and I started introducing a tooth brush a couple of days ago.

I love that the technique is so versatile and I now use it before I do anything new-ish to him to get his consent. Thank you so much for another valuable lesson :-)

You might have already seen the pictures on Camp Cocker’s FB or Instagram, but Lumi celebrated his 1st birthday last Friday. I was not sure if he would agree to wear this silly birthday hat I had bought, but, after introducing the hat to him using the same technique, he wore the hat and the little tuxedo collar proudly and even devoured his birthday cake while wearing the hat."

Lumi is a blind Cocker Spaniel adopted from Camp Cocker Rescue and located in Arizona.

Hot take: if you're a trainer making a bunch of money off of people's woes when it comes to dogs and then prioritize none of it towards actually getting an education, I hope you *step on LEGOs repeatedly when you get out of bed in the morning.

I'm here to tell you that your dog doesn't think its an alpha, nor you its littermate. Its communicating something - ALWAYS - usually physical discomfort or emotional distress.

Again, kick these hobos out of your house.

If you hire someone that advertises that they're a positive trainer and then they come to your house and recommend processes so obviously cruel that they make you uncomfortable, kick them out of your f*cking house and call us. We offer FORCE FREE training virtually anywhere in the world, and in-person in the Chicagoland area.

This weekend we got an urgent request to help a blind Cocker Spaniel with Camp Cocker Rescue - so of course we dropped everything to phone consult immediately.

We are working with Lumi virtually now in a package to help him transition into his new, adoptive home located in Tucson, AZ.

Transitions can be difficult on dogs, and especially for special needs companions. Lumi came from South Korea, had surgery to remove his eyes due to a medical condition, spent limited time with a few different fosters, and then to an adoptive home. It is a lot of upheaval!

We are focusing on building trust, consent for handling, and basic life skills - and also addressing ways to help a blind dog navigate safely in a new environment. We are teaching the humans how to modify interactions and training to suit this special needs boy.
