🌩️ Storm Season Is Here! 🐾

As we all know, storm season in Florida can bring more than just rain and thunder — it can also bring a LOT of stress and anxiety for our furry family members. 🐶🐱

The good news? There are things you can do before the storm hits to help your pet feel more comfortable and prepared! 💙

🌧️ Here are a few ways to help prevent storm anxiety:

🐾 Try a calming pheromone diffuser
Products like Feliway® for cats and Adaptil® for dogs can help create a more calming environment. Consider plugging one in ahead of time so your pet is already exposed to it before a storm rolls through.

🔊 Get them used to storm sounds
Try playing thunderstorm sounds quietly on your TV or phone throughout the day. Slowly increasing the volume over time can help your pet become more accustomed to those sounds instead of being startled when the real thing arrives.

🏠 Create a safe space
Set up a comfortable area where your pet already feels safe. Add their favorite bed, blanket, toys, or even a piece of clothing that smells like you. Having a familiar place to retreat to can make a big difference.

🎾 Keep them mentally and physically busy
A good play session, walk, or enrichment activity before a storm can help your pet burn off some energy and give them something positive to focus on.

📺 Use background noise
White noise, calming music, the TV, or a fan can help mask some of the thunder and other loud noises.

💊 Talk to your veterinarian BEFORE storm season gets intense
If your pet experiences severe anxiety, don’t wait until they’re already panicking to reach out. Your veterinarian can discuss additional options, including medications that may help your pet cope more comfortably.

Most importantly, stay calm yourself! Pets can pick up on our emotions, so keeping your own energy relaxed and reassuring can help them feel safer, too. 🩵

And remember — if your pet goes from being mildly nervous to trembling, panting, hiding, trying to escape, or becoming destructive, that’s more than just being a little scared. Give us a call! We’d love to help you come up with a plan before the next storm hits. 🌩️🐾

Stay safe, Florida! 💙

🚨 PRODUCT RECALL: ADEQUAN® CANINE

Important notice for our Adequan® Canine clients:
A voluntary recall has been issued for certain lots of Adequan® Canine (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan) 100 mg/mL injection due to the potential presence of glass fibers identified in a sample.

The recalled canine lots are:

* Lot #3369
* Lot #25011

If you currently have Adequan® Canine at home, please check the lot number on the vial/packaging before administering another dose.

If you have a recalled lot:
❌ Do not administer it
📦 Set it aside and keep it in a safe place
📞 Please contact our hospital so we can help you with next steps and discuss your pet’s medication plan.

The manufacturer reports that, to date, there have been no reported adverse events associated with the recalled lots. However, administration of an injectable product containing particulate matter could potentially cause irritation, swelling, inflammation, pain, infection, or an abscess at the injection site.

If your pet has recently received Adequan® Canine and you notice swelling, pain, redness, or other concerning changes at the injection site, please contact your veterinarian.

Please share this post with other pet owners who may use Adequan® Canine. 🐾

This notice applies to the recalled canine product only. The equine product listed in the manufacturer’s notice is not included in this post.

Check it out! From 6 yr old Shih Tzu.
This dog had Non-Anesthetic Teeth Cleanings every 6 months since 1 year of age. Owner came to us (I worked at a veterinary dental specialty clinic) after seeing blood in food bowl. 18 teeth were abscessed. Owner was devastated because she thought she was doing what was best for her dog. This picture shows that the crown was clean but, the real problem was below the gumline. The danger of this type of cleaning is that the owner thinks the teeth are clean but, the infection is hidden. Cleaning below the gumline and dental X-rays can only be done under anesthesia. Education to pet owners is so important!

☀️ Hello, August in Florida! 🐾

Florida summers can be beautiful—but they can also be dangerous for our furry family members. Heat stroke can happen in just minutes, so taking a few extra precautions can make all the difference.

💧 Keep fresh water available
🌴 Stick to the shade whenever possible
🌅 Walk during the cooler morning or evening hours
🚗 Never leave your pet in a parked car—even for a minute
🐾 Check the pavement before heading out for a walk

Know the warning signs: excessive panting, bright red gums, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse. If you notice these symptoms, move your pet to a cool area and contact your veterinarian immediately.

Let’s work together to keep our pets happy, healthy, and safe all summer long! ❤️
