Blue-Eyed Lilo was so happy to work on her door manners this morning! We helped her reduce barking at the door, and sit and wait for the door to open before greeting guests!

Heading home from Indian River Dog Training Club’s fall Happy Ratters Trial! Bindi was a ROCKSTAR and found allll those rats! 11/12 Q’s means three new titles for us!

Ah, yes, it even happens to dog trainers!
Aurora found the baseboard trim to be very delicious! And of course she did, she’s a teething 16-week-old puppy!
What did I do about this?
First, I never caught her in the act of chewing the baseboard. If I had, I could have signed “Leave It” to her. And if she left or ignored the baseboard, I would have rewarded her. However, I have to understand that may not be the long-term solution, or something that will work if I’m not home or not paying attention.
Second, I sprayed some lemon juice on that corner of the baseboard to hopefully deter chewing next time.
Finally, and most importantly, I OFFERED HER A GOOD ALTERNATIVE, in the spot where she goes to chew to relieve her gum pain.
We will now leave items of similar texture (benebones, nylabones, etc.) in that corner. If Aurora is feeling like chewing something, and heads to that same corner again, she will be met with several options to chew which have a history of being encouraged, given, and reinforced!
We will wait to repair the baseboard until all of her adult teeth have come in and we are confident she is out of this stage.
Life with a puppy!!!! I love her so much, even if I don’t appreciate her art pieces.❤️
