Mosquitoes don't take the winter off in Florida, and neither should heartworm prevention!

Heartworm disease is a serious, potentially life-threatening illness that affects both dogs and cats. Because mosquitoes are active throughout the year in Florida, protecting your pets isn't just a seasonal concern. It's a year-round necessity.

Just one bite from an infected mosquito can transmit heartworm disease, and missing even one monthly dose of prevention can leave your pet vulnerable.

The St. Augustine Humane Society makes protecting your pets affordable with:
âś… Heartworm testing for just $25.
✅ Monthly heartworm prevention starting at $6–$7.50.
âś… All-in-one preventatives covering heartworm, fleas, and other parasites starting at $20 per dose.

Keep your pets protected every month of the year! Call the St. Augustine Humane Society at (904) 829-2737 or email [email protected] to schedule an appointment.

A healthy pet is a happy pet, and October’s National Pet Wellness Month is a great reminder that preventive care makes a difference!

Regular veterinary checkups, vaccinations, proper nutrition, dental care, and spaying or neutering all play important roles in helping our pets live longer, healthier lives.

At the St. Augustine Humane Society, we believe every pet deserves access to essential care. Our goal is to help families keep their pets healthy and at home, reducing the need to relinquish them to shelters.

We offer affordable wellness services, low-cost spay and neuter procedures, a pet food pantry, and other resources to help pet owners care for their four-legged family members.

Learn more about our wellness clinic and available services at the link in our profile.

Maya has been making the rounds, and she's ready to find her forever home!

October is Adopt a Shelter Pet Month, and we're celebrating by introducing you to a very special girl who's looking for a family to call her own.

Our Community Relations Director, Lynn Washington, recently brought Maya to the WJXT4 The Local Station / News4JAX studio for an appearance on River City Live. Maya also made a stop at Cafe Eleven, adding another adventure to her busy day!

Maya is looking for a loving home where she can settle in, enjoy plenty of attention, and become someone's faithful companion.

Adopt a Shelter Pet Month is a wonderful reminder that opening your home to an animal in need can change two lives: yours and theirs. Interested in meeting Maya? Contact Lynn at [email protected] to learn more about adopting her.
