Great weekend at the SECs, fun with friends, Miami, youth sailing and of course a good dose of life lessons built upon. Thank you Coral Reef and huge thanks to C*C….and huge congratulations to Colton making Alex and C*C proud with an impressive 2nd place overall in a 270 boat fleet!!!

It was just a few weeks back that we decided to take Kai to the 2023 Opti Nationals. Initially I didn’t want to put the pressure on him as he was enjoying his summer coming off about 6 months of virtually no sailing. Well, I guess that break did him some good as he surely showed up to compete at the 2023 Nationals. After the first three races he was sitting in 27th out of 210 and grinning ear to ear. In his own words, nerves got to him a little after that and he says he wished they wouldn’t post the results until after the regatta 😀 Lesson learned! Mental toughness and the ability to focus on just the race you’re in at that moment means everything in multi-day regatta sailing. He says thanks to this experience he’ll be better prepared to block the excitement out the next time he gets on the leaderboard! I love the life lessons youth sailing provides!! All that said, he finished well enough to qualify for US Team Trials! And has plenty of time between now and next April to strengthen his mental fortitude for the ultimate test at the San Francisco Yacht Club in the 2024 National Team trials. CONGRATULATIONS BOOTS!! We’re all very proud of you! —- Many thanks to our wonderful team at C*C-SC and coach Alex who has been a master at helping this young man grow.

An unexpected regatta weekend that turned out to be a lot of fun. Kai enjoyed a warm up before Nationals in a couple of weeks. Mina and a group of Laser friends jumped on some Club 420 racing for some fun competition in good winds and Coach Elyse supported her fleet of Opti sailors like a seasoned pro! While Summer sailing has taken on a big event regatta profile through the years, it is always rejuvenating to enjoy the lighter side of sailing competition …simply getting back to messing around in boats, for the fun of it. Thanks to ChYC for hosting and C*C for providing such a supportive home for our Salty Dogs this summer!

Great weekend at Hobcaw Regatta. Poor pics but fun times. Bean pulled off a couple of bullets and some strong finishes on Day 2 to secure 2nd in a fleet full of sailors heading to Worlds!!! And Kai keeps stepping up to the increased competition securing 5th overall and 3rd in Blue. Unfortunately no pics with trophies as we all skipped out for Granddad’s 80th celebration. Love our Salty Dogs and love their competative spirit. They earn it, again and again.

Great weekend sailing at the Lowcountry Regatta, seeing old friends and making new ones. Plus podium finishes for all three of the Salty Dogs!

Kai had an incredible weekend at the JIYC regatta finishing 3rd overall (2nd in Blue) after a regatta full of greatly improved starts, some amazingly skillful comebacks and truly competitive sailing against some seasoned Opti sailors. AND it is his first overall podium finish at one of these Charleston regattas which had him holding his head high and excited for what’s to come. Very proud of you Boots!

I couldn’t be more proud of these three Salty Dogs each having a first-time experience this past weekend.

Elyse coached her first Opti Green fleet regatta and had a wonderful time sharing her racing experience with a couple of new, up and coming, racing sailors. She’ll be coaching all summer at C*C and can’t wait to help these kids reach their potential.

Mina sailed in her first Laser regatta (ILCA 4) and outperformed even our greatest expectations, accomplishing some 2nds and some 3rds amongst other respectable finishes in a pretty tough first regatta fleet. The sky is the limit with this kid. Can’t wait to see what she accomplishes in the next few years.

This weekend was Kai’s first time sailing in Blue fleet and his first regatta since last fall. The dust shook off nicely as he enjoyed a fun weekend competing against friends and fighting for some 3rd and 4ths of his own through the weekend. Again, with a pretty good field of sailors rubbing rails with him.

I could never put into words how great this sport has been and continues to be for their development. Love sailing!! Love these Salty Dogs!

Huge thanks to C*C, Quique, Alex, Austin and Jason for helping get this summer off to a great start!

What a week! Two Salty Dogs departed Florida with a panhandle storm in the forecast and soon found out it was headed straight for home. Luckily it had weakened before reaching STA and my bride and two remaining homebound children were well versed in hurricane prep! The house was fine, the boats are fine and our family road out the wind and rain safe and sound. In the meantime, Mina and Team USA had a wonderful week of sailing in the bahamas…(feeling a little guilty of course) but nevertheless a wonderful week! Truly, a family of Salty Dogs…Thanks Mama…my Bride…and by the way, Happy Anniversary! 20 years since our first sail together and 18 since the knot…couldn’t be having such a great family life without you…Love you Moni!…Salty Dogs!
