Update on the poor little poodle with the open wounds and maggots. We named him Raphael, after the Archangel of Healing 🙏🏽 Raphael was so skittish that we had to photo edit the first image of him for clarity 🙏🏽 please see our previous post on him for his full story.

Once we got Raphael to the hospital, he was shaved down so the veterinary team could fully assess his injuries. What they found was devastating 💔

His wounds are severe and heavily infected. He had been suffering for days... possibly even weeks. The veterinarian believes these injuries may have been caused by a large dog attack or by deliberate puncture wounds inflicted by a person.

Raphael is now in intensive care. His tiny body was on the verge of becoming septic, and he is fighting for his life.

We are a small rescue, but we have never believed that a dog's chance at survival should depend on the size of an organization's bank account. We don't turn away dogs in desperate need.

Right now, however, we need your help 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Raphael's emergency medical expenses come on top of our monthly shelter, food, and veterinary costs, and the financial strain is significant. We never want a lack of funding to be the reason a dog doesn't receive lifesaving care.

If you are able, please consider making a donation today. Even the cost of a morning coffee can make a difference. When compassionate people come together, miracles happen. Second chances happen.

And right now, Raphael needs that miracle. 💚🐾

🚨 EMERGENCY RESCUE 🚨 This poor baby was found struggling to walk outside of our shelter with severe, extensive wounds... some already filled with maggots. We also suspect a broken hind leg 💔

Our team immediately began disinfecting the wounds, but we moved slowly and gently to earn this baby’s trust because the fear was overwhelming. We can only imagine the cruelty and pain this sweetheart has endured.

To safely help and transport the pup for emergency treatment, we placed a mild sedative in food before rushing to the emergency vet. Now the real fight to save this life begins 🙏🏽

We desperately need your help. Veterinary care, wound treatment, medications, diagnostics, and possible surgery are extremely costly, and we can only continue saving dogs like this because of compassionate supporters like you.

Please consider donating today. Every single dollar truly makes a difference and gives innocent souls like this a chance to survive and finally know love ❤️

🙏🏽 Please help us save this baby.

Today, we honor the forgotten heroes with paws. 🇺🇸🐾
The military dogs who stood beside soldiers in war zones… who detected bombs, protected lives, carried out dangerous missions, comforted the wounded, and gave everything without ever understanding why war existed.

Many never made it home.
Many died in service to humans they loved with their whole hearts.

On this Memorial Day, we remember the brave K9s who served with loyalty, courage, and unconditional devotion. They were not “just dogs.” They were soldiers. Partners. Protectors. Heroes. ❤️

Today we remember them.
Today we thank them.
And today we promise to keep fighting for the voiceless. 🕊️🐾

A fear reactive dog is not the same thing as an aggressive dog. Fear reactivity is usually rooted in anxiety, trauma, insecurity, or feeling unsafe. Aggression is the intent to cause harm.

A fear reactive dog is often saying:
“I’m scared. Please give me space.”

These dogs may:
• bark
• lunge
• growl
• hide
• cower
• snap when cornered

But their behavior is driven by fear and survival instincts... not dominance or “being mean.”

Many rescue dogs, especially those who survived abuse, neglect, the dog meat trade, or life on the streets, never learned that humans and other dogs are safe. Their nervous systems are stuck in survival mode.

An aggressive dog, on the other hand, is displaying behavior with the intent to threaten, control, or harm beyond a fear response. True aggression is far less common than people think.

At Run 2 The Rescue, we spend one-on-one time with each of our survivors. We take the time to learn their individual “love language,” understand their triggers and fears, and help them heal emotionally so we can set them up for success in their forever homes. Healing trauma takes patience, trust, consistency, and compassion.

Some of the most loving dogs in the world were once labeled “aggressive” simply because nobody stopped to ask: “What happened to them?”

Behavior is communication. And with love, patience, and the right support, healing is possible. ❤️🐾

Happy National Rescue Dog Day! ❤️🐾

Last June, we rescued Dash from the horrors of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. Back then, he knew nothing but fear, pain, and survival. Today, Dash is safe, cherished, and living his best life with his loving family in NY.

Dogs like Dash are the reason we fight so hard. Every rescue is a reminder that even the most broken hearts can heal when given love, safety, and compassion.

But so many are still waiting… waiting for someone to choose them. Our shelter in East Asia is filled with brave survivors hoping for their own happy ending.

Please consider adopting one of our rescue dogs and giving them the second chance they deserve. Because while saving one dog may not change the world… for that one dog, their whole world changes forever. ❤️

We rescued this sweet senior girl from a slaughter site in East Asia. 💔 She was discarded by a dog meat breeder after years of being used only for her puppies.

We named her Lyric. 🥹

Even after everything she’s endured, Lyric is incredibly gentle, loving, and sweet. We believe she’s around 7 years old and appears to be a Newfoundland/Golden Retriever mix — and honestly, we think she’s absolutely perfect. ❤️

Lyric is now safe at our shelter, where she’ll finally experience kindness, comfort, and love. The next step is helping her heal and get healthy so she can find the forever family she deserves. 🙏🏽
