Jubilee getting some extra O's (aka oxygen) before we started her dental procedure! ๐Ÿฉบโœจ

Before anesthesia, we pre-oxygenate every patient. This means, we have them breathe 100% oxygen for about 5-10 minutes. This helps increase the oxygen reserves in their lungs and supports a smoother, safer transition into anesthesia.

It's one of the many small but important steps we take behind the scenes to help keep your pets as safe as possible during their procedures! ๐Ÿ’š

While we do see a variety of exotic pets, this fabulous peacock was informed that he falls just outside our patient list. He seemed less than impressed and refused to leave. ๐Ÿ‘€

However, if you have a rabbit, ferret, guinea pig, reptiles, or parrot (to name a few), Dr. Grennon would be happy to see your exotic pet. Call us at 727-725-1691 to schedule!

But actually... Miles DNA test revealed he is 100% Rottweiler and did not have any genetic conditions to be concerned with!

Miles' family seriously hit the JACKPOT when they adopted him from the Humane Society!! He is a big goof ball who just wants to be as close to you as possible. We can't wait to see him again soon!

As you pull into your appointment, you may see our wire cage set up and wonder.. what's that? We are helping Tampa Bay Wild rehabilitate a juvenile Gopher tortoise that was dropped off to us as wildlife.

In the wild, Gopher tortoises bask (sunbathe) just outside the opening of their sandy burrows to raise their body temperatures. Because they are ectotherms, they rely on the sun to warm up so they can digest their food and gain the energy needed for daily foraging. This cage set up allows us to offer him "supervised" and safe basking time during our open hours using natural sunlight versus a heat lamp.

We kindly ask that you do not approach his cage as we want him to have as little contact with humans as possible so we can release him back into the wild when he is ready!

Today is National Greyhound Day!
Greyhounds are a "sighthound", which means they chase game based on their sight instead of by scent. Theyโ€™re well known for their agility and extraordinary speed but can be some of the most gentle dogs and make great pets!

We are a vet partner for Gold Coast Greyhound Adoptions Gulf Coast Chapter so we get to see the dogs right as they come off the tracks from up north to ensure they are healthy and have all their wellness services up to date before they are fostered and adopted out.

Would you ever consider having a greyhound as a pet? Let us know in the comments!

What started as a routine dental cleaning turned into something much more important for sweet Libby ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿพ

When Libby's mom dropped her off she was expecting a routine dental procedure. But during Dr. Grennonโ€™s pre-op exam, he felt something concerning in her abdomen and suspected she may have a splenic mass.

Because of this finding, Dr. Grennon recommended postponing her dental cleaning so we could perform an abdominal ultrasound and get a better look.

The ultrasound confirmed his suspicion โ€” Libby did have a splenic mass. These masses can grow quickly and may rupture without warning, causing life-threatening internal bleeding.

We scheduled Libby for surgery as soon as possible to remove her spleen and the mass. Thankfully, surgery went great! Libby recovered perfectly without complications ๐Ÿฅณ

And the BEST news? Her mass came back benign (non-cancerous)! ๐ŸŽ‰

Stories like Libbyโ€™s are a powerful reminder of how important thorough physical exams and advanced diagnostics can be. Weโ€™re so thankful for our new ultrasound equipment, which allowed us to perform her ultrasound the very same day and quickly move forward with the care she needed to stay happy and healthy. ๐Ÿ’š

Libby's story reminds us, sometimes a routine visit can save a life!
