Bennett is looking for a new home!
Bennett is looking for a new home at no fault of his own. The person that brought Bennett in would like him to go to a home that is going to love him and give him a forever family!

Bennett is an intact male husky mix that is very friendly and social with new people that he encounters. During his visit today he loved to be pet and have the attention of the technician and the doctor! During the visit he did receive his distemper vaccine and rabies vaccine. He will need a distemper booster. Bennett has lived in a household with cats and is kid friendly. Lizzy and Jagger would like to say that it is no fun to vomit on a Tuesday night after eating rat poison.
Any place that your dog or cat can get into there should be no poison placed in the area. If you have a rodent problem, use a pet safe solution instead of possibly deadly poison to ensure your dogs and cats are safe.

One of the most common rodenticide poisonings is bromethalin. The product is sold in hard blocks, soft bait, pellets, worms, grubs, meal or grains. These can be not only appetizing for rodents but dogs and cats also. Dogs are most likely to ingest the bait itself; cats are more likely to ingest a rodent that has ingested the poison.

When bromethalin is ingested, it is rapidly absorbed through the GI tract and metabolized in the liver. The primary target of the bromethalin and its metabolite is the central nervous system. This then causes a depletion of energy, then causes various areas to swell in the central nervous system including the brain. Clinical signs can become apparent a few hours or even seven days after exposure depending on the amount ingested.

If your pet has ingested a rodent poison, it is very important to contact your veterinarian or an emergency center right away. The veterinarian can then direct you how to proceed and decide if the dog needs to come into the clinic. It is important to keep the packaging or have a picture of the packaging to show the veterinarian/ staff. This is to help determine what poison was used in the bait. Not all poisons are the same especially if they are an older bait.

Panda is a Bluetick Coonhound!
The Bluetick Coonhound originated in the southeastern United States in the 1900's. The first Bluetick Coonhound's were produced by breeding an American and English Foxhounds together. These dogs are used for hunting racoons, tracking cougars and bears. The Blue in Bluetick Coonhound comes from the unique coat patter of black ticking through the white hair. This pattern shows up as a navy-blue color.
