We teach our children to be kind, but do our dogs understand our human kind of kind?

Nope. Hugs and kisses should be reserved for the people we love and those who consent to our affection.

Dogs don’t generally like kisses or hugs. This kind of behavior is human and can be very threatening for a dog, especially from a stranger.

Is your dog a fence-jumper? Try paw-proofing the top of your fences with a PVC 'roller bar' which dog paws can't hold onto. For more info check our Knowledgebase at http://bit.ly/1iU270l

Looking for unique holiday gifts? Wanting to be safe? Wanting to support a local small business?

If you said yes to any of those questions, come on by this weekend! Me and the boys will be running amuck while my wife, the artist, handles the glass!

Masks required. Saying hello and that you know me from here is a bonus!

Let’s have some fun.

Share a photo of your pet!

Here is my old man, Hua Kola. His name is a Lakota phrase that, at one time, translated as “I would fight to the death for you;” only males were allowed to say it and it was to indicate the closeness of your relationship such as brothers, best friends, etc. We call him Kola for short. He is 15.5 yrs, a lab mix, and has been helping me with clients way back when I was a vet tech when we first became family 1/15/05. While I try and keep him retired - he deserves it - he is still a huge help when I have clients dogs at my home.

Greetings everyone!

You may have noticed Wags and Wisdom’s page hasn’t been as prolific since June 2019. Even though I haven’t been active here as much, I am STILL open and training virtually every day. So what happened?

In short, we welcomed a 6 month old (human) into our home in August. As one friend put it, we have had a radical shift in our lives. For your amusement: I am 48 and my spouse is 60 and neither of us had changed a diaper until July. Go ahead and laugh - we sure do! 🤣🤣🤣

I usually take fewer clients Sept-Dec, in part because that is the busiest time of year for my spouse’s business, Girl Glass, and partly due to the fact it is moving into the holidays and it is a natural lull in Wags and Wisdom.

In January I started to get truly back into the swing of things and found, as many of you won’t be surprised, that, with raising a baby, I had a new normal. One of the more challenging things can be returning calls and emails due to the now 14 month old tornado that I share a home with. I still return them, it just sometimes takes a little longer.

What is happening now? Well, we are all sheltering in place, as animal training isn’t deemed an essential service. The good thing is all of my clients have transitioned to us doing things remotely, via video chat. Clients with whom I had been seeing in person say they don’t feel like they are missing anything (and they don’t have me as a distraction!) and new clients have expressed they are having a great time and we are seeing forward momentum that is comparable with clients that I would normally be seeing in person.

Benefits of training remotely:

Flexible and convenient scheduling
• Less distractions
• Your pet focuses more on YOU
• Same expertise as in home training
• Continue your forward momentum with training
• Stop unwanted behaviors
• I have a demo dog readily available to model each technique
• Something fun to look forward to in this time of physical distancing

Another great thing - you can do our appointments in your pajamas!!

Are you having problems with:
• Kids and dogs interaction
• Your pooch staying quiet when you are on conference calls
• Basic obedience
• Husbandry skills like toe nail trims, ear cleanings, trimming around eyes/muzzle while not being able to go to your groomer because of Covid-19
• Do you want to make future veterinary appointments go more smoothly
• Inject a little more fun and bond more with your pet during this crisis
• Stay safe, continue learning, and support a small local business during this time

If any of the above applies to you and your pets - I have worked with over 200 species of animals, so it doesn’t just have to be dogs - shoot me a message and we will schedule some time for a free phone consult to determine how we can best work together to make you relationship with your pet even more amazing than it already is. And, if you feel like it, share Wags and Wisdom with friends and family in person (while maintaining physical distancing!) or on Facebook; mileage is no longer an issue!
