🚨Final Plea - Adoption or rescue placement needed ASAP
We work extremely hard to find positive outcomes for every animal possible, but some have needs beyond what our shelter can support. A Final Plea is issued for animals that are struggling to find a home, are suffering mentally in the shelter environment, or when all in-shelter resources have been exhausted.
These animals need adoption or rescue by June 18:
Amina – A731612: *rescue only* Amina is a 1-year-old, 41lb shepherd mix with lots of fun, puppy-like energy. Volunteers describe her as easy to leash and handle, with a loose body and frequent check-ins with her handler on walks. She already knows "sit," learned "down" in just a few repetitions, and is extremely food motivated while taking treats so gently they almost fall out of her mouth. She is potty trained, enjoys exploring the yard, and has had successful interactions and playful sessions with select dogs in the shelter. Amina has shown some reactivity towards dogs and cats. Previous owner noted occasional herding-style nipping behaviors towards humans. She may bark at dogs she passes and can be vocal when crated if left alone. Amina would benefit from experienced rescue placement able to provide structure, patience, and continued training while allowing her time to decompress. Due to her dog reactivity and history with cats, she would do best as the only pet in an adult home committed to meeting her enrichment and behavioral needs.
Pluto – A734636: *$200 rescue grant* Pluto is a 72lb pitbull mix who is described as a happy, friendly dog who enjoys spending time with people and going for walks. Volunteers report that he is easy to leash and generally walks with minimal pulling, though he loves stopping to investigate interesting smells. He is treat motivated and enjoys exploring the yard with handlers. In dog intros he has displayed loose body language, appropriate greetings, and the ability to disengage from other dogs when interactions become overwhelming. During one introduction, he appropriately growled after being mounted by another dog but did not escalate and was successfully reintroduced. He has shown appropriate social behavior with several female dogs. Volunteers consistently describe Pluto as extremely enthusiastic and affectionate but note that he struggles with impulse control and manners. He frequently jumps on handlers, seeks constant physical contact, and can be difficult to redirect once excited. Although his behavior appears social, his size and excitement can make him overwhelming to handle. Pluto would benefit from an experienced adopter or rescue placement able to provide structure, continued training, and positive reinforcement to help him develop appropriate manners. He would likely do best with people committed to meeting his enrichment needs and helping him learn calmer ways to interact with those around him.
Please share their information with potential adopters or rescues - time is of the essence.
