Our attorney and law enforcement friends may already know this one but for the rest of us, fun fact: the penal code for armed robbery is a 211. 🚨 And so continues a month of sharing Laura’s shirts… get it? 😂 (For fun, who already knew what 211 meant???)

Tuesday Tips: Begin working on the stay command while on leash so you can reset them easily if they make a mistake. Keep your movements and distractions simple and then gradually increase the intensity. 🦮 (Be sure to keep their stay time short and THEN gradually increase!) Bonus: Let us know how this goes! 🤓

If you know you know— but do you know: can you guess how many shirts like this Laura has? (Hint: so far we’ve shared two! 👀)

Happy Friday— make way for play! 🎉Taking frequent breaks during training sessions will help your dog not get bored with training. I find these breaks give me a moment to reevaluate how the last short training session went, along with what I would like to do differently next time. Give it a shot and let me know how it works!

Check out these highlighted details for your heel commands and feel free to share!

🐾 My focus is to keep the dog’s head in line with my hip

🐾 Work on having your dog stay in the correct walking position when you stop

🐾 I like for my dogs to wait for my next command once we stop walking. In this video I chose to direct Takoda to lie down after we stopped. Some prefer dogs to automatically sit when they stop walking and that's great too, but it’s completely a personal preference situation!

🐾 Praising whenever the dog checks in with me and when the dog completes the commands. Praising while in heel helps the dog stay in position and builds our connection— plus I simply love praising my dog! 🥰They're happy, I'm happy... teamwork!

🐾 Use a release command to allow your dog to leave heel and to avoid confusion on when they should walk with you and when they can explore

🐾 Lastly, make it great on leash before working on taking them off leash!

We headed to our favorite Elk Grove pet store this week to pick up a few things and couldn't pass up the opportunity to mention how great Pets To Go is! Wonderful owners and an amazing staff who are all very knowledgeable and helpful! Boomer excitedly picked out a new toy. Takoda wasn't interested in choosing one, so Landen picked one for him. It must have been quite an exciting visit, because guess who slept most of the way home? 😂🐕

Training opportunities truly are everywhere! Here’s one I had recently when I had the pleasure of judging an obstacle trail horse show and the ranch owner allowed me to bring my horse, Kona, as well as my boy Takoda! 🐴🐶 Running I Ranch has an number of obstacles they graciously allowed me to school my horse on after the show and with all these amazing obstacles, it was easy to find training opportunities for Takoda too! 🐾

What’s a unique training opportunity you've found for your dog? Have a photo? We’d love to see it! 📸
