The shelter's story has had its ups and downs, and as this new chapter unfolds we hope to regain the county's trust and respect in our abilities to save as many of these lives as we can. Please be advised that Rutherford County Animal Control Services will be CLOSED on Monday, October 12th, in observance of Columbus Day.

We will resume our regular business hours on Tuesday, October 13th from 10am-4pm.

Today is the day, for our Low Cost Rabies Vaccine Clinic to help keep your pets happy, healthy, and protected! Join us on the first Tuesday of every month from 10:00am–4:00pm at 545 Laurel Hill Drive in Rutherfordton, NC. Rabies vaccines are just $5 per shot, and no appointment is needed. If you can’t make it today, our next clinic is November 3rd!

‼️ For everyone’s safety, please remember that all cats and ferrets must be in a carrier, and all dogs must be on a leash. ‼️

If you’re unable to make it on clinic days, we also offer appointments Monday through Saturday from 10:00am–4:00pm for $10 per shot. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call 828-980-0016, we’re more than happy to help!

It's time for our Low Cost Rabies Vaccine Clinic to help keep your pets happy, healthy, and protected! Hello friends, Tigger here. I just wanted to reach out with a special request for me and my roommates. We would really like to have some smooth peanut butter and some soft dog treats. Any brand of peanut butter is fine, as long as it's smooth and not crunchy. We're not picky about treats but several of us really enjoy the softer treats. We're all such good boys and girls and our caregivers love to reward us with yummy treats.

If you are able to help us, we would really appreciate it. If you're not able to help, we understand and it's ok but maybe you could share my picture? Maybe one of your friends could help or just maybe I could find my new family! My adoption fee has been sponsored by a very generous donor so I'm ready to go home!

Treats and peanut butter can be delivered to the shelter at 545 Laurel Hill Drive. Rutherfordton, NC 28139. We're here Monday through Saturday 10am-4pm.

🖤🐾 HAPPY NATIONAL BLACK DOG DAY! 🐾🖤

Today, we’re shining a very special spotlight on all of our beautiful black and black-and-white dogs currently waiting for their forever homes. These wonderful dogs have so much love to give and are patiently waiting for someone to see beyond their color and discover the amazing personality underneath.❤️

Black and black-and-white dogs are unfortunately sometimes passed by in shelters simply because of their coloring. Their beautiful dark coats deserve to be celebrated, and more importantly, they deserve forever homes.

Each dog has their own unique personality, story, and special qualities. Some are energetic and ready for adventures, while others may be happiest curled up beside their favorite person. What they all have in common is that they are waiting for someone to give them a chance. Someone who will see the dog, not the color.

This National Black Dog Day, consider opening your heart and your home to one of these deserving pups. Your next best friend may be sitting in our shelter right now, waiting for you! 🐾❤️

Take a look at the black and black-and-white dogs available for adoption, share their photos with your friends and family, and help us spread the word. You never know when one share might reach the person they’ve been waiting for!

Each dog is up to date on their core vaccines (DA2PP, Bordetella, and Rabies), has been dewormed, is on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, has been heartworm tested, is spayed or neutered, and will be microchipped before leaving our care! 🐶💉
